Modifying a Rubicon OEM Sway Switch Pod to Work With Off Road Lights

Good Afternoon,
I'm trying to make an ARB off-road light installation look as stock as possible. On my 16 Rubicon I have sway bar switch controls on the instrument panel, to the left of the steering wheel. On the panel there are blanks for items that are not installed.

Has anyone been able to modify that panel for off-road lights? Does Mopar make a switch for off-road lights for that panel?

Thanks, Durwin

I have modified the console switches on mine but as I don't have a Rubicon, I can't tell you if it's possible to mod the locker panel. I'm sure that with some perseverance, it's possible. The hard part may be finding stock covers to replace the Off Road filler.

Sure do. This is the stock center switch panel. I mounted PCB mount on-off switches in there, added LED indicators to light when the switch is on and they control relays in a box I built under the hood.

Good Morning
Cranbiz, I looked at post 4 and couldn't find a photo. Maybe it's just Chrome. I'm looking for something that is like a regular Jeep witch, but is blank.

This forum seems to have a problem with imgur. I can see my pictures but apparently others can't.

See if this direct link works for you.

I applaud his ability but man, thats ugly.

With the center panel, it's set up for factory switches and they are individual so modifying the individual bays is fairly easy. The issue with the Off Road panel is the blank area is one huge panel. That's why Phillip 3d prints a plate to mount the switches to. If someone could come up with something to snap in to the housing that would trigger a couple of micro switches, keeping the factory look, that would be awesome.

Someone posted a link to a company that makes switches. I emailed them right after I found it.
I never received a reply back. I'll look through some posts and call them.

Will do. Relocated it when I had to relocate my office to the basement. Hoping I can find it in the coming weeks.

I called the switch company today. They canít do it because they do not have a switch that will fit into that 1Ēx1Ē space.

Ok, I need to look for the right kind of switch. I canít believe that somewhere Jeep doesnt have something that will work.....

Couldn't you buy a switch from Mopar? Seems like that would be the best solution. I like the idea and hope you figure it out.

Nope, you can't just buy the right switch from Mopar. Those switches are controlled by the CANBUS. Each factory slot is dedicated to one function. The Off Road panel has never had more than the swaybar and the lockers installed in it that I know of, so there isn't a cover for it.

That does make sense.
Well so much for that. I'll look at Mopar then.

It's probably the same for the push buttons under the HVAC controls as well.
Maybe I'll ask the dealer if a switch exists for that.

Exactly the same for the switches under the HVAC panel. The difference there is the covers can be modified to act as a switch lever and there is enough room to place micro switches in there.

You would think that Mopar would make an active switch to go into a blank. But then again maybe not.
I'll let you all know what I find out the next time I go to the Jeep dealer.

Jasemccarty, is there any way to contact the people in your link? I'm now looking at that as a way to get this done. I didn't see a way to contact on their page.

I really do hate giving up.

Any news on this? I’d love to put some switches in that stock location for the clean look of it.

Thanks for reminding me.
I just emailed [email protected] in order to look into a stock-looking switch pod that will work in the Off-Road panel on the left-hand side of the instrument panel.

I'll let everyone know.

I still need to install mine. Misplaced it when I moved the home office to a different room.

I just e mailed Phillip. I told him that I'm looking for something stock-looking. There is a picture of the bezel with black on/off toggle switches. I might go with that.

I wish there was a Jeep switch that would work. Oh well.

Does anyone know if this would interfere with the CANBUS system?

You could probably get Philip to 3D print it in a black/dark grey instead of the white he used. You'd lose the ability to have the backlight though.

I'm probably going to paint mine to semi-match.

Just for an update, I left Phillip a message about getting one made that will blend in with the instrument panel.

I spoke to Phillip yesterday. He had said a switch assembly could be printed in black to match the instrument panel. He also has switches available, but Iím going to go with this

Ok, so here is what it will look like. The switches from my panel are going to be transferred into thi one. Thank you for lsending me in this direction Jase. The point of contact for this is Phillip at Searchers 4 Wheel Drive. His number is 225-744-4947.

I’ll let you all know how it works out when I get the part. Again, this should be a solution to run my ARB off-road lights instead of the switch ARB gives you that just hangs there. I’ll think of something to do with the other switch position.
