Need rocker switch led on when open

Is there a rocker switch that is on/off with an LED that is light when the circuit is open?
This one I bought and wired up is LED on when the circuit is closed. This doesn't work for me because when I use the switch it will be to kill my fan for water crossings, not to turn the fan on. So the circuit needs to be closed at normal operation, but when it is closed the LED is on, even when the key is off... draining my battery.

If I flip the in/out the LED stays light in either position.
So there is no way this will work for my setup.

Does the LED rocker I need exist, or do I need to get a blank rocker or toggle and run a separate light off of it?

You could always use a switched power source... that would prevent the battery drain when off... I'd check with OTRATTW they should be able to answer the question

Yes but they are hard to find, especially if you want a 'fan' logo on it. What you need is a SPDT switch or a DPDT switch that has both lights completely independent. Carling makes them but I don't think you will find them on Amazon at Mictuning or STV Motorsports. In fact if you do find one, it would probably be special order switch from Allied Electronics or Mouser. The switch description for the one you need is On-none-On, meaning it has two separate 'on' states and no center off.

I doubt that this one has pin #1 active but it looks like what you are trying to do. 12 volt 20amp ON OFF LASER Etched LED Rocker Switch GREEN RED -Air On Board

It's clear that the OTRATTW fan switch doesn't either. OTRATTW :: Switch w/Rocker :: Contura X :: Accessory :: CONTURA X SEALED ROCKER SWITCH RED LENS, FAN SYMBOL becuase you can see the wiring here http://www.otrattw.com/wiring/J66a.pdf and pin #1 in blank. As gerry said, call OTRATTW and ask for the cost of getting one the way you want.

However, you can approach this another way by wiring in a relay that interrupts your fan power when switch is on by wiring the fan hot lead the #30 pin of the relay and the switched lead to pin #87A. https://www.google.com/search?q=bosc...VXFP4k32tW8%3D In this case, you would use switched power (acc. power) for your fan switch and the trigger side of the relay. Your switch will then turn on the relay, thus turning off your fan and your 'on light' on the switch will be on when the fan is off. The only caveat here is that not all bosh relays or relay harnesses have #87A but it is still fairly common, just make sure the harness has five wires instead of only four.

Happy Trails,
Bob

Awesome responses, guys. Thanks for taking the time.

I never heard of OTTRATRW before.

I have the Volvo relay setup with the Taurus fan, so its not a standard parts store 4 spade relay. It's a well documented swap. I like how the system works and don't want to alter it.

The switch you are looking for is a SPDT ON/ON. In the normal position (down at the bottom of the switch) the circuit is closed. When the switch is turned on normally, it opens the circuit and would activate the upper LED.

OTRATTW is always my first stop for switches and covers but if they do not have that switch in-stock you can try this one;
