No reading on SWR meter

I just re-installed my Cobra 75 All-in-one kit (Cobra 75, 4' Firestik, 18' Firestik Fire-Ring coax) in my new Jeep this weekend and when I went to tune my antenna with my SWR meter nothing registered on the meter.

No needle movement at all...

I have power to the handset (it turns on and show it is transmitting) and have the meter hooked up properly.

Could it be a bad SWR meter?

It worked two years ago when I first installed the radio in my other Jeep.
Haven't used it since.
It is a cheap ($30) Amazon SWR meter but it was recommended:

I even took the cover off the meter and didnt see any loose/broken/disconnected wires.

I ordered another SWR meter and it should be here tomorrow.

Or could it be another issue?
Problem with the unit itself not transmitting? (I'm a CB noob)

I'm headed the to Jeep Jamboree in Big Bear, CA on Thursday and hope to get this resolved by then.

Thanks for any/all help!

Did you have all the switches right? Did you plug the antenna end into the ANT side? I just adjusted mine, got one from 4west in Colton and there wasn't any issues.

Yup, checked twice...

No needle movement.

I successfully tuned the antenna using this meter on my last Jeep, not sure what's going on this time.

It's set for 10 watts and forward power right? Try sliding both switches back & forth a couple times to make sure one of the switches isn't flakey.

Yup, did that too.

I even tried on separate occasions, a couple times Saturday and then again this morning.

Update:

Ordered new control unit and installed it today.

Problem solved!

Everything is operating properly.

Tuned the antenna and I am happy with the results:

SWR readings:

Channel 1 - 1.2
Channel 20 - 1.3
Channel 40 - 1.3

Cool!

Next time you tune an antenna, just tune it for minimum SWR on ch 20. That will save time and give the best possible SWR across the entire 40 channels. No need to test/adjust on ch's 1 or 40.

I took Jerry's advice and did this yesterday when I tuned mine. Only did it on channel 20 and low and behold, all channels were very clear. Thanks Jerry!

Good advice, thanks.

How was the trip? I didn't see any large groups of jeeps in town last weekend. I did listen on the CB though, sounded like lots of people getting stuck lol.

Really? Interesting.

There were 110+ Jeeps in the Jamboree but we were out on the trails Friday and Saturday from 8am-3pm and then we all gathered at the Elks Lodge for dinner each night.

There also was another big group in Big Bear for National Go Topless Day on Saturday as well.

No real issues in our Green group (17 Jeeps) over the weekend.

One of the trail guides popped his bead off his wheel but we had it fixed in less than 10 minutes (someone was timing it LOL).

We did Gold Mtn and Little John Bull/The Squeeze on Friday and Holcomb Creek and Holcomb Valley on Saturday.

Great weekend of wheeling!

Awesome thanks looks like it was a good time! I was working night/ams all weekend, he'll all week for a hospital so I must've missed the fun in town. I saw some cool jeeps running around but a lot of people have jeeps around here. Where did you all stage from?

The Big Bear Jeep Jamboree is staged from the Elks Lodge on Village Drive (across from Village Pizza).

This is only a couple groups lined up in the morning, there were 8 groups total (110+ Jeeps)

You are thinking of the Forest Fest next month (Father's Day weekend).

That's where every can park their RV in the parking lot or tent camp on the grass by the ski lift.

Cool, I've always driven by that every year and wondered what they were doing. I live like 15 mins from there lol. Have you ever done it? I'd like to take the kids to one some day. Are these events typically family friendly, meaning to people bring their kids? I'm a single dad (widowed) so I have to bring the boys everywhere lol. Hell I'd camp there just for fun.
