No sound from phone with Bluetooth on

When my iPhone 8 is connected via Bluetooth I am not getting any sound from the phone or through the radio. (phone calls working just fine) Can’t hear Google maps text alerts or any other app unless I disconnect from Bluetooth. And when disconnected I can’t use hands free talking. Does anyone have ability to hear sound via phone with stock 430 radio?

I can't even spell iPhone but Bluetooth has an option for the phone and another option for music. Both have to be enabled within the iPhone Bluetooth options.

My android behaves the same way, except I get text alerts. Pandora will play, but things like google maps won't play through it.

Are you saying there is a setting found in the radio? I’ve searched but can’t find anything yet. Thanks for helping. No Pandora or Google maps is a bummer. I’m also going to try updating my radio software.

When mine is connected I can stream music to the radio and make and receive phone calls but all other sounds like texts are muted.

It’s a dumb UConnect implementation of Bluetooth.

To get Google maps prompts to play through the Bluetooth, you have to go into Maps and setting/navigation and turn on “Play as Bluetooth phone call”. The prompts will then interrupt your music as if your receiving a call. The crappy UConnect implementation then becomes obvious. First, you miss the first couple of seconds of the prompts because the Bluetooth hands free is slow to initialize. The as a bonus, you’ll get to hear “Phone call completed” after every prompt.

Then you’ll turn it back off and learn to live with it...

Figured it out. Texting sounds, Pandora, Google Maps don’t come through radio speakers unless on the media page. If listening to the radio or SiriusXM the phone is silent. Waze does work but uses the phone speaker when not on media page. So best to listen to my music while using other apps like maps. So not broke, just different than I’m use to.
