Pioneer 4200NEX vs Kenwood Excelon DDX6902S

New to the forum.... Looks like I can see several threads referring to the 4200 but can't find much on the Kenwood.

Anyone have any advice on which I should choose?

I have a 2016 with the Alpine speakers.

When I look at the specs, I like that the Kenwood has a higher power output than the Pioneer. (22 vs 14 watts) I'm just not that familiar with Kenwood.

Any specific specs that I should look closer at to justify the extra $200 on the Pioneer 4200??

14 vs 22w is less then 2db louder thus you can't hear the difference in SPL.

If you have alpine speakers you have the alpine amp thus the decks power doesn't really matter anyways, you will still be using the oem amp.

If there were NAV decks Kenwood is hard to beat due to Garmin based. With what you are considering I would suggest going to your local shop and using the different decks so you can see what you like and don't like.

On several other posts the major complaint with the Kenwood was the boot up time. In addition numerous people said it was very slow to react to input changes. As a result went with the 4200nex and am very happy. With the amp and this head unit the little bit of difference in wattage shouldn't matter. Good luck and enjoy your choice

Pioneer = bigger screen, removable face plate which is nice if you ever leave the top and/or doors off.

The power ratings are worthless, you should use an amp...OEM or better yet aftermarket.

Good luck

If you want more watts per channel, look at the Sony MEX-XB100BT, it has a class D amp built in with 40 watts per, @ 4 ohms RMS

I just installed the Pioneer 4200NEX and added a box with 2 10" subs and a 500W class D power amp. After running the Pioneer auto EQ and tweaking the results a bit, it's the best sounding system I have ever had in a vehicle. Bluetooth music streaming, HD radio, Apple Carplay, SD card (5600 songs) all work great and even neater with the pioneer Mixtrax. Blows away either of the systems I've had in my Lexus, Maxima and Avalanche. The two tens add a natural sounding bass, but not big hits like for rap music. I plan to add pics of the install soon. I custom mounted a front and rear camera with day/night vision that can be viewed even while tooling down the road. The stock speakers sound amazing now and I've scrapped any plans to change them. After modifying the ProClip mount my Iphone 6+ now sits just above the 4200NEX and I can run them both at the same time. I started with the non-Alpine RES radio system. The IDataLink adapter retained all the steering wheel controls and added the OBD2 port info for gages, battery voltage and even individual TPMS tire pressures.

Based on sound pressure levels, you won't hear any difference between 14 and 22 watts!

So afar I am elated with the Pioneer NEX4200.

Thanks for the responses... I bought the 4200 and also a band motion camera. Plan to install both this weekend. Looking forward to the features and the improved sound.
