Polk DB speakers

Im thinking of replacing my soundbar and dash speakers in my infinity equipped rubicon. Since I have a bad dash speaker from the factory, im just going to replace them now while crutchfield is running a buy one get 1/2 off one sale on the polk speakers. Im looking at the Polk DB6501 component set for front and just the 6 1/2 Polk DB speakers for the soundbar. I would like to hear opinions on these speakers while using the stock infinity amp (search doesnt tell me much). Im using stock headunit (730 nav) and wont replace because of what it cost me and the fact that I really like it too. Also, how are the fitment of the polk tweeters in the factory pods. Hows the bass response from midranges? The front infinity setup isnt that bad so I dont want to take a step backward. Thanks!
Dave

Just a heads up - you can find the same speakers cheaper elsewhere (ebay) despite the sale. I still have the stockers - so I can't say how they sound. Good luck.

Polk DB speakers are some of the best speakers out on the market imo. They have a very realistic sound and are marine rated so youre good to go. Of course everyone hears things differently but I have never heard a complaint from anyone who has decided to go with the polk db.

Copy that. I saw them cheaper on Amazon but I do like getting all the extra stuff for free (harnesses etc) from Crutchfield and if I have a problem they are quick to remedy it. Who knows what happens if I buy em elsewhere from someone that might not be an authorized seller.

Follow up on my post. Ordered from Crutchfield and received them in less than 24 hrs. Started the install and drivers side front was first. After reading all the tips on getting pod out it wasnt hard at all. 15 mins I had it out. Pulled stock infinity out, stuffed with poly and installed DB mid speaker with the supplied adaptor. One minor problem. In my haste to beat sunset, I slipped with the screwdriver and PUT A HOLE TROUGH MY NEW SPEAKER!!!! What a maroon I am. Heres where Im glad I ordered thru Crutchfield. I called up to try and buy one DB dash speaker and told them what I did. They tell me they dont sell one speaker and cant get one speaker, but he told me that since I have a long ordering history with them, they would send me a complete new set, no charge, overnight shipping!!! Hows that for customer service. Just gotta send back the damaged speaker with whatever else I didnt use. Rest of install went smoothly although I only finished driver side because I lost daylight. Dremmeled out tombstone for new tweeter and it fit right in and looks great. Only issue now is how its connected. I hooked the mid bass up directly to stock wiring and am letting the infinity amp cross it over. Tweeters, i originally used Polk DB crossover and hooked stock tweeter wire into crossover then the tweeter out on crossover to the new tweeter. Turned it on to check sound and it sounded good. I then just for experiment hooked tweeter into stock wiring and bypassed DB crossover. Sounds the same but a bit louder. Im not sure which way im going to finalize the wiring for it because I still dont know if the infinity amp just sends highs to the tweeters. Anyway....will finish install friday as now its easy with only having passenger side and soundbar to do. Sorry for my novel!!

Oh one other thing....the bass coming out of dash speaker is much less than stock. It would be fine except I dont have $$ for my JL stealthbox yet and the infinity sub sucks. I may put infinity dash speaker back in until I get my sub because letting the infinity sub handle lows is definatley not going to cut it. After I get it, ill put DBs back in. Anyone else experience the low bass output with the dbs?

They require alot more power than the stock infinity system puts out. This is going to happen with any aftermarket speaker you install. Glad crutchfield took care of you on this, sounds like dealing with big business is sometimes good lol.

the issue is probably due to the fact that the polk's are 4 ohm speakers and the factory systems are 2 ohm systems, or so i've read. the end result is that with twice as much resistance at the speaker, you're getting half the volume. (could be wrong, but that's where most of the discussions seemed to go)

Actually I spoke too soon when I commented with only one speaker installed the other night. Finished the install today. Db6501s in front, db 651s in soundbar. Now that I have all the polks in I cant believe how good it sounds. I have the switch on 0 for the tweeters on the crossovers. Dash speakers I just hooked up to factory wires because theyre allready crossed over. So only thing running through polk crossover is tweeters. The difference in the soundbar over the infinity garbage is amazing. The polks are 4ohms but they are just as loud if not louder than the infinitys and are crystal clear all the way up to full volume. With the infinitys, I had treble set to 9, polks its set to -1. Only upgrade now is the sub, but im content because the polks sound so good. Again bass isnt great with the polks but the midrange and highs are outstanding and they really arent meant for low bass. Was gonna go with the JL stealthbox but it looks like a pita in the 2012s for some reason. Ive read nightmare stories for it in 2012 unlimiteds. Waiting to hear from JL on that. With the stealthbox looking like a no go, I may try an 8 inch JL in the factory enclosure and throw like 200 watts to it or whatever the subs specs allow. If your on the fence about doing the polk swap in the infinity system......DO IT!! You wont regret it!!

I've got an 8 inch jl in a small jl box ( the sub is the 8w3) with 300 watts going to it, and it fills in the low end really well, but isn't over powering. I'm really happy with how it is rounding out my stereo.

Awesome!! Ive read nothing but good things about the 8 inch JLs. I used to have an old 12w6 in my old truck and that thing was insane. Im sure the 8w3 blows the infinity away!!
