Quick Question on Quick Disconnect

I've been looking at setting my CB up with a quick disconnect for the antenna but have been wondering if there are any downsides to leaving the antenna disconnected for a longer period of time. It seems that his would open the internal connection to the elements but I don't have enough experience in the radio world to know if it would do any harm or not.

If its any help I'm hooking the antenna up to a Midland 75-822 so the other side of the coax cable would be disconnected as well.

Thanks all!

I'll be installing my setup this weekend, and have read that it's a good idea to cover the disconnect with something while the antennae is out. I haven't found anything yet, but some kind of rubber or plastic cap should do.

Disconnects I've used, Hustler, leave a stud on the vehicle. Nothing for water/dirt to get into. Ran then for years with no issue.

Not sure what brand mine is, I got it from Quadratec. But it installs as @sparky describes. Antennae bolts into disconnect, and the disconnect mounts to your mounting bracket. When disconnected, the hollow part stays with the antennae.
