Subwoofer help for 2-door JK

Hey guys, I'm looking for a really hard hitting SQ sub. I am not a car audio guy, so wading through all the hype is tough. Not to pile on excuses, but I live in a somewhat rural area and taking the day off to go try out subs is not really an option. I will hear them, but I want to narrow it down to the top couple before I take time off work.

I'm looking at the Audiofrog GB10D4 and the JL Audio 10W6v3 right now. If you know of any others I should add to the list, please let me know. I need something that will fit in our tiny 2-door trunk, and maybe(?) even leave a little extra room for an overnight bag, if possible.

Looking for high quality sound, no vibrating monsters, just hard hitting bass. Want that sound reproduced as closely as possible to the source.

Interested in hearing your thoughts. I know this is a crazy request, but I would really like to get a great sub to go with the rest of my sound system.

That JL Audio 10W6v3 is tempting me now!

Me, too!

I didn't see any amazing Black Friday deals, so I guess the pressure is off to make a choice on the sub.

I think I'm going to add the Image Dynamics IDQ 10" or 12" into the mix. I need to find a local-ish place where I can hear these.

Okay, it's hard to find local installers where I am, but I found a guy and he wants to use a Resilient Sounds Gold 10 sub. Never heard of it, but what little I can find on the Internet looks good so far.

Anyone have experience with this company and their subs?

First suggestion would be to go and listen to subs. What one person likes might not work out for another. Since it sounds like listening ahead of time might not be an option, maybe check with Crutchfield and see what they recommend. I've found them to be surprisingly knowledgeable.

I tend to prefer subs intended for a sealed box for sound quality. Nice and tight and controlled, but usually needs a little more power. Although you may prefer something in a ported box.

Also, what amp will you be using to power the sub(s)?

I loved the MTX downward firing ones I had in my last JK. Sounded more pure and helped my 2dr space.

I have a 4 door but would really like to add a good sub. A downfiring sub in the back seems best. The underseat custom ones cost too much $.

Anyone have a specific recommendation for a decent sub/box combo?

I put a Sundown 10 in a Parts Express truck box in my 2 dr JK. I knew I wasn't going to have time before Winter to build something custom, and this $30 truck box was well built and cheaper than I could have bought materials for if I'd done it myself. It is front firing and fits pretty well in a 2 door. Maybe in a 4 door you could add legs to it and have room to make it down firing.

Keep in mind that you may have to trim the hole to make your woofer of choice fit, and pay attention to the recommended air volume for your woofer. I had to add internal bracing in mine to bring the air volume down to the correct size.

I had the same problem as you. Put in a system and couldn’t decide on a sub option that didn’t take up a ton of room. I went with this prefab kicker compr 12. Partially because it is an absolute perfect fit for our two door trunks. Like wedge shape is spot on. So tight that i think someone would struggle to steal it with the top off. Installed it last night and it hits super hard. Great value for 250 I thought. I am running it with a kenwood 5001 mono amp. Slightly more budget than what you may be looking at but check it out. I was going to do a w3 but with custom box was twice as much.
