Waterproof radio

I think most soundbars are weatherproof but I can't seem to find a cheap waterproof radio. Boat radios are outrageous and I'd like to see if I can find something cheaper. Does anyone have any idea where they sell some good ones?

The alpine cda-9886A is one of the better ones but a little pricey at $300. But check out eBay they have tons for under $100.

I will second that recommendation, except I think you meant the CDA-9886M; the CDA-9886A is the same thing but not marine rated.

Also, most soundbars are NOT waterproof, especially with the factory paper cone speakers. The main difference between standard speakers and marine or waterproof speakers is in the wire terminals - marine grade speakers have corrosion resistant terminals. The only other thing water can destroy on a speaker is the cone or surround; so if they're the cheap factory speakers, they can be damaged from water. Look for real rubber surrounds, and a cone material that won't absorb water if you want a truly waterproof speaker.

You are likely right. I have the regular one in my f-350 and marine in my pontoon. The interface w/the iPod is very good.

Yes eBay is the way to go for stereo stuff. I actually took my boat to a custom shop told them what I wanted and had them make a build sheet/quote which was a bit over $3k. Then went to eBay and got everything deck, kicker subs speakers and 2 digital alpine amps for $900.

Pyle- its quality is in the name. They may be a bit better then a wal mart brand but nothing great. As far as watts it really all depends and can be a bit confusing. Say your stereo puts out 200 watts and you have six speakers each would get around 30 watts even if you have speakers that can handle 100 watts. This is why some stereo heads are so expensive because they can push more power(watts) to the speakers. You can also add amps to give you more power and louder volume. Personally I'd go talk to someone at a stereo shop about what you want/expect out of your stereo and then get the products from eBay.

For speakers I like the kicker marine. 2 for under $90 and they sound fantastic when paired with the alpine deck. I was actually wrong on the deck I have, though both are good. They have built in amps and give each speaker(up to 4) 50 watts.

Don't get Pyle... just don't. Kicker makes great speakers, but you could also look at Polk Audio's DXi series. They aren't directly geared toward boat owners, but they are marine certified, so they should hold up fine in your soundbar. They are also a bit more sensitive than most speakers, so they tend to be louder than most other brands. I tend to recommend Polks to my customers over the Kicker's unless they come in looking for the Kicker name.

x2 for the Polk Speakers. Just replaced all of mine. What you want is the Polk DB series.

Here is a Youtube link to a Crutchfield video that describes then and... drum roll please... in the video they ACTUALLY spray water on the speakers! (..and they mention Jeep use.)
Polk Audio db Series Car Speakers » ProductSpotlight » Crutchfield Video

Here is a link to them on the Crutchfield site:
Polk Audio db521 5-1/4" 2-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com
Great description... but I got a pair off of Amazon for $60--shipped.

So, I ended up putting Polk DB series 5.25 inch speakers in the front and 6.5 inch speakers in the sound bar. [I have a 2003 TJ] Sounds great! Quality product with a good reputation.

I had the same goal as you for my Jeep--wanted to be sipping a summin' hot inside and looking out at my Jeep with it raining down... or be out there in it.
