This one is pretty cheap to get you going.

Pull in to any truck stop on the highway or an rv dealer, I have seen them from 50 bucks on up.
You will have to also purchase an antena which will set you back at least another 30 or more.

how well can you hear this? from what i see it's only 7 watts. which is not much. in compairson most aftermarket radios are 50w max (17-20w rms) and cant hear them that well w/ top off and goin down freeway.

just wondering since i'm new to CB's as well and was looking into getting this package

I just ordered this kit, so I can't tell you how loud it is. Once I get it and have time to install it, I will let you know. A lot of guys use this cb unit though, compact and durable.

if your going to drive with the top off going down the freeway you will prolly need a remote speaker mounted near your head, i bought one for my YJ because the CB is mounted in the dash and i never could hear it over the engine with open top and doorless... but ill tell you this, unless you get something with noise canceling on your mic no one will want to talk to you with the top off and windnoise lol

rightchannelradio.com has great deals on CBs and the entire kit - I picked one up for a little over $100. But make sure you tune the antenna - that is a must for any antenna. I blew my last CB up because my antenna was not tuned correctly.

You sure that isn't the speaker output...? A cb radio can only legally put out 4 watts transmitting.

Even when people modify their radios to put out more than the legal limit...I think the numbers are closer to 10 watts. lol

Sorry to be the one to tell you this but he runs a connex witch will put out the wattage he is talking about! It is only illegal if you do not have a operators liscense witch anyone can get! All you do is take the test! I drive truck for a living and CB is my primary way of communication! I have been around them most of my life im a 3rd gen driver!

It is illegal to put out more than 4 watts AM in the citizens band frequency range no matter what.
Export radios such as the ones you mention are illegal to even own. It's not strictly enforced unless you piss off your neighbors or run into Barney Fife at the coup but lets not give out incorrect info regarding illegal activity kaythanksfine.
