Will it fit?

I am selling a stock stereo out of a 2002 TJ and was curious if it will fit into a 98? Has anyone tried this?

They both appear to take 1.5 DIN in the dash if that's what you're asking. Can you post a pic of the back of unit, to confirm the wiring harness connections?

The stereo in the older models are squared off on the corners and the newer ones are rounded on the corners. I think the change was made in '02

02 was the last of the squared edges

Picture is worth 1000 words. I say it fits, square corners, and with existing wiring harness. If it works OK, and you're just replacing it because you want to upgrade, I'd buy it off you. I just paid $5 bucks for a stock AM/FM head unit (no disc player) at the thrift store. But it would be cool to have disc capability. What's desirable about the stock units is they fit the dash naturally, and the clock matches the odometer. Also if you have a rag top, its low risk for thieves. Its a myth that its "sealed" and you can hose it down. LoL

I already have a buyer but he wanted to know if it would fit his 98, and I sold my 02 TJ and now have an 04 so I have no use for it. Thanks for your help

Just an FYI: Chrysler changed the radio harness and antenna connection on the 2002 model year radio's, but didn't change the actual chassis of the radios until 2003 for the Wranglers. If you have a radio out of an 02, it will physically fit in a 98's opening, but the harnesses will be different, requiring you to do some splicing to get it to work. The radio you pictured still has the old style harness connectors, so it should plug right into the '98. The Wrangler you pulled it out of was likely a late-model year 2001 - check the VIN code to determine it's actual production year; the 10th digit should be a 2 if the truck is an '02, it will be a 1 if it's an '01.
