Custom exhaust recommendation Inland Empire?

Finishing up some work and will need a custom exhaust (cat-back) set up. It's a triangulated rear with limited space, so the exhaust will have to snake around with a couple 90deg turns.

I'd rather not have to do it myself, but so far I can't really find anyone that I feel confident in who's interested in doing it.

Recommendations? Thanks.

I’ve used Speedway muffler in upland in Upland for about 25 years now. Excellent workmanship. In addition to this retail shop, they are the wholesale supplier to most of the inland valley muffler shops. You’ll probably not find a shop interested until they see the job in person.

Awesome. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check them out.

I realize that they need to see it, but I still like to get a feeling over the phone. If they say "sure, we have done lots of stuff like that, bring it on in so we can take a look", I feel good about that. But most have hemmed and hawed and really didn't give me confidence. The only one so far that said, "ya sure sounds like no problem!" is busy for the next few weeks doing custom exhaust projects. That's why I was looking for some personal experience recommendations, thought it would be more efficient than just cold calling and hoping I catch someone with experience doing a job like this. I don't really want to drive all over town without an exhaust to let shops check it out unless I'm pretty confident they can handle the job.

I'll definitely check out Speedway though, thanks for the tip!

They have custom bent at least 6 hot rods for me. One is in my garage. If you would like to see PM me. Good luck, Lee.

PM returned.

I gave them a call today and it sounds really promising so I'm going to go ahead and take it down there either tomorrow or Saturday. My jeep missed its last smog due to getting worked on, so I'll have to get a 1 day permit and hope I can get the exhaust and smog all done in one day.

Thanks for the recommendation, way more effective than me just cold calling around.

I've used Scotty's muffler in San Bernadino. Also recently used Jerl's muffler in Riverside when my Jeep didn't pass smog.

I went to a Meineke for an estimate to fix the exhaust to pass smog. They wanted $2500, clearly trying to rob me. I went to Jerl's and it was $400.

That's an amazing quote! Haha. You'd think you were paying a nuero surgeon to work on your jeep. Haha.

I really appreciate your reply because Jerl's is the place I'm going to go check out in the morning. Ron at spintech mufflers recommended jerl's and I had a good phone call where I described exactly what I needed and what the challenges are, and he just chuckled and said it should be no problem at all. So fingers crossed they can take care of me. I HATE doing exhaust work.

I'll update if it works out so anyone searching in the future knows where to go.

Great, let me know how it all works out, new exhaust and smog. Lee

Just left from there. Unfortunately it's probably not going to work out. They don't think they can do the bends needed to get the exhaust over the suspension link. They offered to just get the muffler on and do a turn down on front of the rear axle. But if I'm paying for that I'd just do it myself. I've got another place I'm going to try in the morning, hopefully it will go better.

Sorry about that. Hope Jerl's can get it done for you.

So Jerl's got it done. In an honest review, I wouldn't give them 10/10 for a couple little things. First the negative:
1. I will have to go back for them to fix where the tailpipe passes the shock. It clears fine for street but I pointed out it will hit off road when flexing and the shock swings side to side some. They have no problem fixing that.
2. Like I said, I just finished a ton of work on my jeep, which included all new suspension (new paint), and I even stripped and painted much of the frame as it was starting to get more surface rust than I'm comfortable with. I'm being very picky, but there ended up being more scuffs/scratches than I hoped. Luckily A) it's not a show jeep and after my first trip to the Hammers, I wish wish I only had 3-4 scuffs from the muffler shop B) it's easy to touch up if wanted. C) even if I did the job myself I would have gotten a few new scuffs.

However, the good: they definitely get a strong 9+/10 for customer service and work. They got it done in a few hours. The exhaust snakes over the 4 link suspension pretty much exactly how it needed too, nothing hits (except for around the shock which they are happy to fix). They never talked down to me like most other places, and genuinely listen when you tell them what you need. The shop is full of old hot roads, old 4x4s and other custom projects, and definitely don't blink when it comes to difficult and custom builds. I paid $320 for the labor and materials (mandrel bends) of piecing together a custom pipe. In an ideal world I would have done it myself with a mandrel kit from summit/jegs, but it would have taken me much longer and I'm up against some deadlines.

I worked with Josh there. Him and his family have a history with jeeps and knows them well. He's more than willing to crawl under with you in the parking lot and take a look at what needs to be done. He's the kidna of guy who will tell you "X has a better warranty, but we get them back constantly, and you still end up paying for labor to redo it. Y has less warranty but we've never had one returned cause they last forever."

If you need exhaust work (and they do almost any repairs/mods, even lift installs, engine mods etc) I would STRONGLY recommend Jerl's Muffler & Brake
9431 Indiana Ave, Riverside, CA 92503
(951) 682-7443
They are in the process of changing their name to reflect doing more than mufflers/brakes, but everything else will stay the same.

That's my unbiased review, I have no connection to them in any way besides driving there for the first time yesterday, and paying the same as any customer. I'll post pics later today.

Awesome, another resource.

Probably both, you can use a thermal pad under the carpet and a heat shield wrap on the exhaust and muffler. I found out how much heat was on the floor after I got a Yeti cup and had it in the console and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't stay cold very long. Lifted the cup out of the cup holder and the bottom was almost too hot to the touch......$$$$$ it's a JEEP

I returned to Jerl's the next Saturday, for them to adjust where the tailpipe passed by the shock, as I mentioned previously. They redid the rear part of the tailpipe, and there is now plenty of clearance between the shock and pipe, all free of charge. I am very happy with the final result, very happy with the service, and would highly recommend Jerl's
