Gladiator runs: 2/15 Brooklyn Mine Jeep Trail 2/16 Bradshaw Trail

A couple of us Gladiators are getting together for a weekend of runs and hitting Brooklyn Mine Jeep Trail on Saturday (2/15) and The Bradshaw Trail on Sunday (2/16). It will be cold next weekend, so the wife and I will get a hotel room so that we don't get sick.

Saturday:
Meeting point for Brooklyn Mine:
10 am Santana's Mexican restaurant
73680 Sun Valley Road
Twentynine Palms, CA

Objective: Run Gold Crown Road, have fun, stop to take pictures, run Brooklyn Mine, stop at Mission Well to take more pictures, air up tires by 4 pm.

Sunday:

Meeting point for Bradshaw Trail:
Love's Travel Stop at 45-761 Dillon Road, Coachella, CA at 9:30 AM

Objective: Exploratory run - we will just have fun and not attempt the complete route.
Frequent stops throughout the day for pictures of the Salton Sea and the nearby Bradshaw Trail and look for fun obstacles. We will head out by around 4 pm to get off of the trail before dusk.

This should make for a fun weekend on the trail!

Gladiators only? The wife says she might want to go and bring her new (to us) LJ - she's still learning to drive it and this would be a great run for her.

Any 4wd is welcome Randy. That LJ looks nice! Perfect for the trail!

Well, looks like we wont be able to make it after all.. the LJ is getting regeared and a new lift this week and assuming we have it back by the weekend we will need to keep it closer to home until the gears are broken in a bit.. will probably do a short shake-down run nearby instead.

No problem, I understand. My Gladiator is making some loud noises out of the front axle - either an axle seal without oil or worse. So, I will take the TJ instead and leave the Gladiator with the dealership until a full prognosis is made.

Yes! Both are excellent beginner runs.. @TheDesertOutlaw leads groups of beginners out there often.. The Brooklyn Mine trail was one of our very first runs several years ago, led by him.

Sounds great, I'll be there Saturday.

I know i need to pickup a fire extinguisher before the run.
Is there any other must have that i should get?

I need to start working on my tool/recovery kit.

A good idea is to have spare radiator hoses, radiator cap, a good spare tire, plenty of food, drinking water, a cb or 2 meter radio for communicating on the trail. Arrive early on Saturday so that you can get your food to go and/or eat breakfast before the run. Please arrive with a full tank of gas.

The Gladiator is at the dealership awaiting a bushing for the front axle disconnect. Since it is not advisable to drive, I will take the TJ this weekend. I feel your pain Randy! It will be great to see you!

It was nice meeting everyone today and great to see you again Ken..
After we split off from the group we went over to the canyons opposite of Golden Egg Mine.. all the roads dead ended so after crawling through a couple of washes we backtracked and went back to the canyon near Lorman Mine (where we had lunch earlier with everyone) then went out the canyon to Iron Age Rd, then back to Hwy 62 ..

How was the Rave? And did you make it over to Brooklyn Mine? Pics??

Hi Randy! We went to the sand dune and rave for 20 minutes and the children got to play on the sand (*supervised) and the dogs were able to run off some of their energy. After we briefly saw you near Golden Egg, our group visited Brooklyn Mine. Most of the group entered the mine, but upon returning, Chris (maroon Tacoma) hit his head on an outcropping and required some medical attention from one of the Lexus SUV drivers (who is a Nurse). Once back on the trail, we completed our run at 6pm.

Sunday was also a blast. We dropped into the trail via I-10 exit # 182 and drove south via Red Cloud Mine road.
Our pace was leisurely, taking photos along the way in our 8 vehicle group. We followed the trail to the massive Salt Creek Wash bridge where we stopped and photographed our walk across the 500 foot long, 40 foot tall structure. Incredible! We continued all of the way down the trail to view the mudflats and the wooden tressle near Dos Palmas. The mud there is what likely stopped a 1980s-era Ford F150 as only the body and frame are visible as the rest of the vehicle has been stripped clean. After our run, we drove back to Indio for Mexican food at El Mexicali Cafe #2 and we literally closed the restaurant with our 16 person group. Click image for larger version
