Saturday 9/14 Mottino Wash and Heartbreak Ridge

Apologies for the short notice. I have some free time this Saturday so I’ve decided I want to run Mottino Wash and Heartbreak Ridge.

Looking to meet up off highway 38 on 2N01 trailhead at 8:45AM and roll out by 9:00AM. Bring snacks, drinks lots of water etc. Thinking about possibly bringing my camp stove or mini propane bbq for some sort of trail lunch, bbq etc.
Limiting the run to five rigs maximum.

Rig Requirements: 35” tires minimum, but 37+ preferred, lockers, skids, winch, tow points front and back, and rocks sliders a must. Body Damage is Possible!

Wish I could make it but I'm on call for work this weekend. Jeep should be out of shop tomorrow or Friday at least. Replacing tie rod with Fusion, rear diff cover (leaking from last run), and putting on new evap canister bracket with an added skid plate (original too bent to get skid plate on it).
Still waiting for new winch and need to do some grinding/bending on wheel well to prevent cutting tire on full compression.
At least I can work on my jeep while on call.
no whining now...

Sounds like some nice upgrades going on there.

Your going to love that fusion tie rod. I am blown away with its performance. I got stuck on John Bull and after trying both a left and right alternate line finally got out of my rig to see what was going on.. Found I had been driving the tie rod into a rock and it was actually on top of the rock, bent both up like a rainbow and fully back into my front diff cover. Backed off and it sprung right back to its original straightness.

Also they still have highway 330 closed (front side). 2N01 is on the back side, but could hit traffic going up.

I can't go this week, but might be down for Holcomb or something next Saturday.

*Update*
Due to heat/time concerns we have decided to skip mottino this time around. We plan on running A loop that included Heartbreak ridge/Pontiac sluice where we will be in higher elevation and cooler temps.
Many Apologies... We really wanted to run mottino, but that would require a very early start to avoid lower elevation high temps that are expected for tomorrow.

Fall weather get here already! Want to get out to Calico, marble canyon, Johnson valley-cougar buttes etc..

Check out the updates above. Apologies for the changes, but it’s going to be a scorcher tomorrow and some people can’t make it up there earlier.

It was a really great day out on the trail today. Feeling the cool morning air still present the three of us made our way directly to mottino from the meet up spot. Temps were only 83 degrees at the start and 84 when we finished! I really enjoyed/enjoy running this trail, definitely one of my favorites. We then made our way over to Heartbreak ridge/pontiac sluice and had some sandwiches and jeep chat time at the top of the hill.

I had a great day with everyone out there, thanks for making it out guys.

Thanks for leading the trail and lunch, that was my first time wheeling in that area, the scenery is great out there. I managed to bend my hydro assist ram which I didnt notice until I got to the main road, I pulled of the road and had to remove it and cap the lines.
Here are some pictures my wife got on her camera combined with some that Kevin took as well.

Thanks for the pics Brian. It was fun wheeling with you and watching you push that beast through the rocks. Sorry to hear about your bent ram on the jeep, I thought we all had made it through pretty unscathed.

Good times, good times.

I also found my steering box is trashed, I already have the new one drilled and tapped for hydro assist, ready for install tonight. Not bad for being beat on for several years. The new rod for the ram will be here friday so I can rebuild it. This just means I need to rearrange my steering since it was my tierod flexing into the ram that bent it. Some day I will make it through a trip without a single issue.
