4x4 101?

I've seen a lot of new jeep family members here recently and was wondering how interested everyone might be in a "jeep class". My husband and I have taught classes covering safety, basic need-to-know, and some recovery practices. Basically just taking a simple trail, like Bitter Springs, that has a decent variety of terrain and doing some OJT. Anyone's invited and us older guys can help answer questions and show 'em the ropes. Feedback?

I like your post. Earlier this year when I had my F150 I was interested in some training and took a class from an I4WDTA trainer. ( Scott Fields of UORTC) Glad I did. He taught me things it would have taken me years to figure out. Basic information on safe driving practices, safe recovery practices and gear etc.....

Every person that is "new" to off road driving should consider taking a basic training course. If you watch enough off road fail videos on you tube you can see that things can go wrong fast and life and limb is in peril.

Good luck in your endeavor, I hope lots of folks take you up on your offer.

Count me in on Bitter Springs 1/17. My wife Lisa and 12 year old son Pearce will be with me. Any suggestions or etiquette to know in advance? Thanks for the offer.

Nope! Just make sure to have a full tank with water and snacks and bring a jacket because we'll be making stops and getting out of the vehicles to do quick lessons along the way.

I am new to the forum and not sure how it works compared to other groups but there does not seem to be a lot of activity. I will be there with my family. We are looking forward to this run and appreciative to those who are willing to share their knowledge to help us new wheelers. Thanks and see you Saturday AM.

Some people like to just ghost the forums, some like to participate. Either way we're going to have a great time and it'll be a good learning experience to those who come! Can't wait to see you all tomorrow!

Hey Mike- I'm definitely looking forward to meeting up sometime too. I can't make the run tomorrow, but will hopefully be getting out the following weekend my son to meet up with Rayne. We're kind of in the same boat with the Jeep and kids, so it'd be great to meet you guys sometime too! You'll have to let me know how tomorrow's ride is!

What a great day ! Thanks to you guys , friendly, informative and taught with patience. The day was perfect for a ride, and the scenery was real nice, picture perfect kind of shots.
We went thru all kinds of terrain. Even climbed a steep hill for the first time . Does anyone know the mileage of this trail ? Anyways, this was FUN and very helpful. Nice to meet you all....Erin, Matt, Jeremy, Mike, Lisa and Pearce and hope to see you all again soon !!

Thanks everyone! We had a great time, learned a lot of tips and tricks, saw a whole new aspect of Valley of Fire and made new friends. A special thanks to Rayne for organizing and Matt for sharing his knowledge as well.

According to the Nevada Trails book the unpaved portion of the trail is 26.5 miles. I would rate the trail at Class III on the Mitchell scale (I - VI) which is right in the range we enjoy.

We hope to go Wheeling with everyone soon.

lol I avoid mud as much as possible, dust is so much easier to clean off.

I wouldn't even be mad if there was actual mud out here instead of the Quikrete concoction we have. I did not make friends with the car wash people in the summer of '11.
