Big Bear Forest Fest 2015

Anyone thinking about doing this run?? With about 200+ other Jeeps?? Lol. Fathers Day weekend June 19-21.
Not me!!!!

I was thinking about taking a group up to Big Bear the following weekend June 25-28 to avoid the crowded trails. This would be a camping event but you could get a room or cabin if you want.

I would be leaving Thursday the 25th but would meet up Friday morning to start wheeling.
Hit Motino Wash. Then meet up with anyone that arrives at about 2pm to hit Jacoby Canyon and then UP John Bull. Camp out. Something like that.

Saturday do Dishpan Spring and Holcomb Creek. Hit up the village for food and beverages then back to camp. Maybe go down John Bull. Any one interested??

Armor is a must. 35" good tires maybe a locker. Recovery gear maybe a winch.

Calling this the Asphalt Rejects Big Bear Fest. Make it a yearly thing for sure.

My family and I are going to BBFF. We enjoy Big Bear but have never gone wheeling there, figured it would be a good way to run some serious trails with experienced spotters to hopefully avoid metal on rock carnage. I will give a report upon my return and collect information that might help the group that you assemble.

I like the idea of going 2 weeks in a row, not sure about the wife though. Will approach that one weekend at a time.

May want to call ahead, think I just caught a segment on the news about closures caused by fires up in the Big Bear area.

There's a fire up in the Big Bear area but it's not effecting the event.
It's still a go for this weekend but the event is sold out if you want to do any trail runs. This doesn't mean that you couldn't run some trails with your buds or other people out side the event though.
There's a good raffle and vendors show too.
Have fun guys.

I was told a couple of runs including Onyx are closed due to the fire. There was a lot of smoke in the Big Bear valley in the AM but the breeze shifted and it cleared late morning.

We ran Jon Bull today. We have a 4" lift, 35" tires and Rock Hard sliders, made it with minor damage including a front sway bar link, cross member, oil pan, exhaust tip and a rear lower shock mount. The sliders supported me several times, but still look great. Some others didn't do so well and most were running 37s. I would say front and rear lockers are a must. A good spotter and slow going contributed to our success.

Glad I did it but this was the most technical run I have ever done. I would compare it to the Rocky Gap wash (not bypass) in 10 separate sections. A strong 5 on the Mitchell Scale.

Running Gold Mountain tomorrow.

Well the fire is still burning with smoke coming and going in the valley which caused an orange hue of light on everything.

We ran Gold Mountain today and it was a perfect balance of technical, scenery and not mashing metal. There were a couple of dry waterfalls and rock gardens that I would recommend lockers and 35s for.

All in all a great day.
