I might be interested Joe, let's see what kind of activity it gets. Might be good to share with the newbs that this is basically a simple but very scenic trail that starts off the 15 near Valley of Fire and cuts across the desert to Lake Mead. May want to also check the local off road motorcycle sites to make sure there are no cross country rides that day, Sean and I did that trail one day a while back and couldn't make it all the way.

18 Oct 14 Saturday Morning
Meet at 0830
Go at 0900
Bitter Springs Backcountry Byway
from I-15 exit 75 to Lake Mead at Echo Bay.
This is an easy 2-4 hour drive featuring great rock formations in the beginning, some desert scrub in the middle and several miles of a sandy wash leading to the North Shore road 3 miles from Echo Bay on Lake Mead. We can then continue on to Boat House Cove Road to the Lake. When we are all done it is a nice leisurely drive through the Lake Mead National Park back to Las Vegas.
Bring the kids and the dog. Pack a lunch, it is a very nice ride and the weather should be spectacular.

This sounds awesome but I don't know if I can make a Saturday drive. How well maintained is the road? Will there be any fun technical parts?

Bitter Springs is an old trail over to Lake Mead so its a fairly easy trail. Once we get over into the washes as you get closer to the lake there are some mounds to play on but that's it for technical parts.

Gonna have to pass on this one, my lovely HOA decided to send me friendly letter regarding our stains from the dirt that washes off our roof with what little rain we do get. See you on the next one.

Sorry Joe, I will make it the next time. I'm really looking for something different. How about Gold Butte, anyone been up there before?

Found This Online.

It probably is an overnighter. Gonna have to get my motivation up for camping, not much of a camper here. Never seem to get a good night sleep, when I am roughing it.

Joe and I went on a desert wrangler's trip through gold butte a year or so ago. It was a great trip that included the Scanlan Dugway.

Gold Butte is a one day run. Kind of a long day, but it's easily doable. If you leave Vegas about 8, you can still be home by 5 or 6.

We went into Gold Butte area last year and camped on Lake Mead it is a long haul not to difficult a few challenging areas and some sand stock is no problem.

We took several turns along the way to get to the Lake, the trip took us to Scanlon Ferry Road and the big thrill was driving down and then up the Scanlon Ferry Dugway which is an old trail just wide enough for a Jeep. May have been a thousand foot or so change in elevation.

If you go to DW meetup page photo it was Feb 27 2013.

Gold Butte area is really nice. The wife and I especially like Lime Kiln Road, very scenic trail that takes you through the N/W corner of Arizona. Lots of Joshua Trees and Pinyon Pines when you get up in elevation. Rumor has it that there's a haunted run down cabin along the trail. HA! This would be a fun trip for a group. It's off the Bunkerville exit of I-15.
