Going To Vegas

My family and I are going to Vegas over Christmas (their idea not mine, I swear)! We will be taking the '15 JKUHR. My question is (thx in advance for your help) what are some great trails around the area? Is there a must do? Technical is ok. My wife and I did the Rubicon in August this year and had a great time!

Lots to do in Vegas. The strip, take in a show, endless buffets, spas, shopping, Hoover dam, the casinos, etc. As far as four wheeling, there are lots of desert trail all over the area just outside of Vegas. You can go in almost any direction and plenty of washboard roads, trails, rock crawling, etc. There are usually no one around so if you're stuck or broke dik.... Don't be broke dik in the Mojave desert is the best advise I can give u.

You can find lots of mountain climbing and caves to explore if you are into that stuff. There are flats they lend themselves to all kinds of creative activities. And if you are the Scully and Mulder type, the truth is out there.

If you are into guns, you have lots of opportunities to set up a long range shooting spot, or do some action pistol type setups.

Some things to be aware, cell phone signals can be spotty... Well, there is no cell signal in the desert. Look out for desert critters like scorpions, a scorpion sting 200 miles from the middle of nowhere with no way to call for help can prove to be a catastrophe. Watch out for fire ants too. Stay away from any holes in the ground.

Lastly, It should be in the 60's to 70's this time if year. I would make sure I have protection, emergency supplies, make sure I have a vehicle in good mechanical condition, and If you can coordinate the trip with some other party, that would be best. I would not want to get stuck alone in the Mojave.

1. Dump whoever doesn't want some fun in Dave & Busters or some casino.

2. Head for Red Rock Canyon

3. Fun!

I lived there for almost 15 yrs. Took my Jeep all the time in the desert. Rubicon Gil is spot on correct. When I got my 2002 TJ, i took it out with less that 200 miles on in, just to see what it was made of. I wasnt prepared, no cell phone, water, flashlight, had shorts on, needless to say I was not prepared to be in the desert. Well after a few hours of fun, I decided to try to climb this mountain. Well a sharp boulder ripped the side wall of my tire completely out. I couldnt turn around and couldnt stay put, so I backed it down to a flat plateo and began to access the situation. Once I figured out how to use the worthless jack the fun began. I was lying in the rocks and dirt getting cut up, MFing the jack. It started getting dark and I was thirsty, pissed that I messed up my new jeep, screwing around with that POS jack and it was gettig dark. I had to use my Zippo so I could see. Once I got the tire changed I drove out of the desert, alignment out of wack, tire destroyed, rim chewed up, dirty, thirsty and my pride hurt because I knew better.

I was never that unprepared again! I went and bought a HiLift jack, a must! A GI ammo can and loaded it with a tow strap, tools, binoculars, work gloves, knife, sunblock and a solar blanket with survival kit.

So as close as the Strip looks, its easy to get 20 miles away from civilization real quick. Be prepared before going into the desert. IMO a HiLift jack is a must, not to mention H2O, sunblock, flashlight and something warm.

There are lots of ghost towns and mines to see. The Mojave Preserve is a great place to explore.

Would also post this in the NV section as you will most likely get better and more current responses. Don't know where you are from but even in winter this is still the desert, drink lots of water and take lots of water with you.

I always thought they did. There's something there, across from the casinos. Big arcade, whatever it is. Dump them there.

We had a huge gameworks right by MGM Grand. They went under but reopened another location kind of near the strip. However, this location barely as any games and barely any people go there. most likely, it will go out of business as well. its really pathetic lol. I say drop the kids off at the adventure dome at the circus circus. what place is always fun! . :]
