my 2014 rubicon overheated

Part 1.i had my new Rubicon 10 days, then it overheated. They found after replacing the TIMP ( ask me what that is if you dont know) that the Rad. Fan wasnt coming on anyway. So after 8 day delay, they got it back to me.

Part 2 --7 days later i get in and the coolant temperature says 77 ° then i turn over the key. The temperature continues to raise on up to 226° within 3 miles and i wanted to know...if it was parked in the shade and out door temps about 85° and vehicle barely been on for very long, doesnt it seem high ? I had to have a new fan put in on the radiator already, and its a brand new jeep. They CLAIM to have fixed it, but i may be paranoid by now. I saw no fluid in the overflow contaainer. Yikes... Im in Las Vegas. Can someone let me know which service mechanics they find to be good ? Im not feeling it for the Sahara location. Am i wrong ? Anyway, iv driven 500 of my own miles on it, and Las Vegas can damage an engine quick if its not protected every which way. Then, too, i hear these stock radiators are wimpy.

If you bought it new I would lemon law it and tell them to give me a new jeep identical to the one you got. That's just me.

I would tend to agree with raptor on this one for sure. That way down the road when your current rubi is no longer under warranty you won't have to deal with the same issue

Call Chapman and ask for Dennis Goern I believe he is the service manager. He is a member of Desert Wranglers Jeep Club.

Talk to him and see what he can do. It all sounds repairable.

I would get them to tow it in and Jeep owes you a rental while it's being fixed.

well, I did get a rental car those 8 days, waiting for a part to come in.
A friend was outside my Jeep while I dropped off some papers, and he mentioned how much heat it was throwing off, surprised him. I said I was keeping my eye on the coolant temperature.. it was 226, but later looked and noticed no coolant in the overflow, as was the case previously, when it was taking in the first time. They said they refilled the antifreeze and checked the engine over for any possibilities of damage....which has made me pretty unsure of where this is all going. ok, my peace of mind has been tampered with. So.
Others on the Wrangler site are told the 2014 run hotter so the fumes burn better...this might make the EPA happy, , but its an aluminum engine, and I've havent even been out of town yet !!
Someone told me Nevada doesnt have Lemon Laws. This Jeep was driven up from Blythe, Ca. because I wanted side air bags..ya, probably not what others would do,,but what happened between there and here?? I didn't have alot to do with most of the initial 300 mile break-in period on this motor..

overheating

Ok, so... given my story; I should work with the service manager? to determine if its a Lemon or fix the problem? I can see, the fix may happen, but at what price to the engine already??
Im not feeling too good about this.

So the Lemon Law_ing happens AFTER the 3 attemps to fix it, right ? I will call Dennis Goern , service manager and hopefully its just something harmless. Thanks for the name to work with,

I was under the understanding that it was within a certain amount of time not how many times they try to fix YOUR NEW VEHICLE....... There is no way I would accept anything but what I paid for and that's a perfectly running vehicle.

Check your coolant, make sure it's purple OAT not orange HOAT. When we bought my wife's JKU it had the wrong coolant in it. Had to have the entire system flushed multiple times and then had the correct purple OAT installed. Fortunately the two coolants were never mixed, if they would have been...major problems. Good luck.

Ya...about that., Both incidents, i observed no coolant in the overflow. I pointed this out both times i took it in, but there was the usual mumblings that it was fine. "The pressure pulls it out of there" and that the rapid heat up of the coolant ( from 77 to 226 degrees )within 2-3 minutes is normal...its called warming the engine..... but Really. That FAST ?. Anyway. They did say the coolant was low. And "burpped" the radiator. Im not happy the coolant was low, afterall, they did just refill (?) the antifreeze on the previoud visit...just weeks ago.
I took it , drove it, idled it for half an hour....and it only got as hot as 217..so that seemed. Ok.
I bought the lifetime warranty, but these autos are spit out pretty fast. I dont blame the service tech so much as it is the industry. They get them producted and then the salesmen sell "the product". I hate that once they sell it, they're done with the customer service...
Im trying not to be a raving lunatic, but they've dropped the ball quite a bit, since i bought mine.
As for the Lemon Law, i heard that you need to have the problem 3-4 times to call it a Lemon, you can then "invoke" the Lemon Law, it then becomes a lawsuit. You -vs- Chrysler...and even if you were friends with them up to that point, its all business after that. AND they are given more chances to fix it.... once they feel its unfixable, then they pay you for the (Pro-rated) time it was not "whole". The Judge determines that.....
Its not an open & shut situation, i guess. And when i signed my papers, there was an Arbitration clause.
Sure, i'd like to have just got new keys to a different Jeep on the day i was on that freeway, overheating. Waiting 8 days for a part.
But with all the recalls out, the parts are on back- order...

As for the color of the coolant ?? Who knows what color their using.... i never see it !! I will lift the hood in the a.m. to see if the overflow container has anything in it...again. Am i mistaken , or has it changed...that these overflow containers need to be half full, no ? So it can draw or expell when its needed.

I used a turkey baster with a piece of clear tubing attached. Sucked just enough out of both the radiator and overflow bottle. Take it outside to check the color in the sun...better be 'Laker Purple'. If the two coolants ( HOAT and OAT ) are ever mixed together it forms a thick gel through the entire coolant system creating huge problems. There's a lot of information on the internet about this.

Wow....you dont think they'd do that at the service dept. ... has it happened ??

If I could get a locking radiator cap I would. Any time I take the Jeep in for any kind of service I ALWAYS tell them do not touch the coolant. There is so much confusion about which coolant to use a tech may, with all good intentions, top off a system with the wrong coolant. It happens even among dealers. When I went to the dealer to buy OAT coolant they tried to sell me HOAT and insisted I was wrong. Had to get the parts manager and he had to look it up. I'll take responsibility for the coolant system, no one else.

I just checked mine with the turkey baster and clear tubing . The color has an irridescent blue tinge with an orange = a pink color.

Thanks for that. I pulled antifreeze from the radiator and overfill into a clear tube. It looks pink with a tinge of orange and irridescent blue tinges,., but Pink.
So visit number 3,.,,, i guess its time to see the manager.

It looks like they put orange coolant In my Jeep. I just checked the radiator and the overfill in the sun it is PINK. orange and the irredescent purple together.
So Chryster, now the service Tech have let me down. They probably have to be talked into the fact that the coolant is not right. To cover their mistake. Then maybe they'll want to take it and flush the coolant ...but, heck,,,the system is contaminated, the corrosion pictures of what the damages do...affect the heads, the water cooler, the radiator core....my new Jeep .. : (...

Difficult call, could be a light purple? May have been over diluted with water? To be safe I'd do a system flush, that's what I did. I bought the coolant ($50.00) and 3 gallons of distilled water and the dealer supplied free labor to do the flush. Took almost 2 1/2 hours to flush, refill and burp the system but now I KNOW what's in there and no one is going to add anything but me. Good luck buddy.

Doesn't lemon law have to happen three times for the same problem? Or is that California only?

Nevada Lemon Law Statutes
Takes a little bit of read but here is the webpage

Summary of Lemon Law Nevada

The following are the key aspects of the law lemon Nevada. In order for your car to qualify, the following conditions must be met:
• The lemon law applies to new motor vehicles normally used for personal, family or household purposes, except motor homes or off-road vehicles.

• The car must have had at least 4 repair attempts or have 30 calendar days where the car was out of service.

• The coverage period is the express warranty period or 1 year, whichever occurs first.

• Filing to claim the lemon law must occur within 18 months from vehicle delivery.


If the above conditions are met the manufacturer is required to do one of the following:

1. Replace the vehicle with a comparable or similar model with like features.

2. Refund the total purchase price less reasonable cost for usage.

Didn't read all replies...make sure you're going through dealer, it's a 2014! Have all recorded...AND. Call Chrysler ASAP! lodge a complaint, they'll give you a case number...I JUST went through this with my '12 and they're sending me a check for one months payment. I was out of mine for three weeks, leak inside transfer case. They are WONDERFUL to work with!

Hmm. Wonderful -- ? I have orange coolant in with my purple coolant. The service dept. did that. From what it read, its real bad for the whole cooling system. Just asking,: but on a scale of 1-10....just how bad would that be ? And getting it flushed out soon, will that stop the corrosion that happens.
