Unreal find on Potato Ridge

A couple of us headed over to Vegas from Pahrump for breakfast and on to Rocky Gap and Potato Ridge today. Perfect day for the trip and we saw several things you don't see everyday on the trail.

First off, don't forget about rattlesnakes! We stopped at the top of the rock garden and saw this fellow sunning himself...

Now, about that unreal find. Sitting right next to the road we found these laying on top of the ground.

The one on the left is a bolt action 22 while the one I'm holding looks a lot like an old Marlin 2 shot magazine bolt action 12g. The 22 bore is completely rusted shut and the stock was broken. I think what happened was the guns were buried in that hillside and somebody drove over the stock and popped both weapons out of the ground. The 12g is well rusted too but not nearly as bad.

A few other shots from the day...

And finally, I hope we run across the animal that made this track one of these days...

Very cool. While I know that it is not relevant (old mobsters don't have built Jeeps methinks...), interesting hypothetical to wonder how / why they got there. Definitely NOT something you see everyday, much less once in a blue moon.

I hadn't thought about the mobster possibility... My thought was somebody set 'em down while hunting, walked off to check out something, then could never find their weapons again, but the mobster idea is a lot more fun to contemplate! Why else would they have been buried?

As a side note, I know a guy that claims he bladed that road 50 years ago. It used to be the main road to Vegas I understand way back when.

man very cool find especially since I was just on that run Friday last min with Rabbit and another friend. Side note was the first time I did a run in my jeep with the doors off and WOW was it nice. Not enough trails out there that are low dust enough for me to go door less.
