Anyone’s Jeep a police magnet?

So I have never been pulled over before until last night! Luckily it turns out that the cop was wrong. He thought my temporary tag was expired which couldn’t have been possible as I just got it last week! My friend was riding with me and she said it’s cause it’s a Jeep. So that made me curious! Anybody here notice they get pulled over more in their Jeep opposed to other vehicles?

Same here except for one exception. Had a local follow me into a hospital parking lot to find out which tube doors I was running. He now has the same ones on his Jeep.

With a tired 4.2, 31" tires and stock gears, I don't speed because I can't speed.
I even look forward to a particular 35MPH zone so that I can hear my radio over the wind noise.
In 4+ years, I've never been pulled over in my Jeep. I'm an old buzzard and I wear a cowboy hat. Easy to see the hat, I typically run with the doors off 9 out of 12 months.

Good Luck, L.M.

I've never heard of Wranglers as being a cop magnet...except the ones in PA riding around with their doors off. Supposedly, that's a ticketable offense.

The only police attention my Wrangler gets is when they stop to chat because they want one.

True, but I talked to my neighbor, a chief of police, he advised if people have their seatbelts off and no doors, they get a ticket. Other than that, no ticket from his officers.

I've been pulled over twice and been driving mine since 07. Once was to ask me which lift I had and if I liked it. Once was to ask me to go pull out his daughter at the pit. They all know me though.

Quite the opposite as I have been driving Jeeps since the early 1970's and I have never been pulled over while in a Jeep. I have also been driving other vehicles as well and have been pulled over a few times or even followed. In the 1980's I got a Georgia State Trooper unstuck out of the median.

Only time I got pulled over in a jeep it was an xj that I was back hauling for work doing 96mph on a down hill. I have no idea how fast I really was going the speedo only went to 85 and the needle was bouncing around like crazy due to some gear slip. I thought I was doing 75.

Years later when I got my own xj I realized that what I had done was kind of impressive.

I was wondering about aftermarket fenders that don't cover the tires.

When I had my 99 Dodge 1 ton dually within a week a cop stopped me and told me I needed to get mud flaps. The tires on a Jeep with non stock fenders have a lot more tire exposed.

I call them "Slime Dog" cops that see a cute female driving a vehicle and quickly search for any 'POSSIBLE' probable cause to stop her, no matter how sketchy. Unfortunately, they ARE out there.

Can't say I've noticed Jeeps being pulled over more than any other vehicle around here and I have yet to be pulled over in while driving mine.

Not my experience. I've never had very many speeding tickets in any vehicle, but I do tend to drive the Jeep slower than I drive cars.

I have no front plate (which is legally required in my state) but nobody has cared so far, and I see many Jeeps around like this.

My closest run in if you could even call it that has been driving around 10mph over the freeway speed limit late at night, a CHP Tahoe or Suburban enters the freeway and drives up like he's going to slowly pass (before I realize he's CHP, as they mostly drive Explorers around here) but then he slows to match speed right next to me so that I can see who he is, then I sheepishly slow down and he carries on ahead.

And mine is bright red.

Iím interested in your statement.

With todays viral environment what makes you believe this actually goes on as you imply? Anyone accepting a job with the cops, undergoes more than 14 months of training an evaluation before he/she is allowed on their own is pretty telling how compatible to the community theyíll be. Women have tons of voice today, so much so every complaint is taken seriously. Days of sweeping shit under the rug are over.

Cops today are seriously micromanaged like never before in Americaís history. What you just stated spreads fear to female readers in here. So? According to you this happens all the time in youíre community? Or did something happen thirty years ago?

Theres this thing called chain of command. This chain goes way higher than an ordinary street cop.

After 50 years jeeping, I recently went into a 2019 Toy 86 two seater. Cops look at me all the time now. In the jeep, never hardly noticed unless it was to complement my rig.

Not for me to comment on specifics but ask yourself this, "Why do you think they are being forced to wear body cameras and have dash cams on their vehicles"??? False and frivolous citizens complaints, YES, but the other direction also.

I would just like to assume that as a young driver (OP)with a temp tag, that was the only reason for the stop. I am thankful there were no issues. However, we all know temp tags get altered often. To that reasonable cause. Could have been an AMC Pacer (prob more cause LOL). I am a LEO family and realize there are good and bad seeds in all fields, though would like to think this is just standard op process.

In some of my older vehicles, I had a lead foot. I tend to like to go at the pace "the vehicle wants to go", if that makes sense.

Well, my Jeep is many things. Fast isn't one of them.

I find myself driving more relaxed, and with my suspension/wheels more alert as any small amount of melted pavement (I'm in AZ) can push you a foot this way or the other.

So, haven't had any problems. Trucks, I've noticed, are the same way. Unless you do something really stupid, you're usually ignored, especially if your truck is white. They'll think you're a contractor, and give you a break by not harassing you (fun fact!).

That happened to me as well. The cop says he "fat fingered" the temporary plate into his computer and it came up as expired. It was at night and I was driving a Jeep Patriot, so I took him at his word.

I got pulled over in mine for speeding. But when he saw I was wearing an EMS flight suit he said drive safe see you later.

In your case I imagine it would have made his day to pull over such a hottie!
