Dodge Journey oil indicator light

Wife has a 2012 Journey with the 3.6. I used to rely on dealership to change the oil because she worked close to one and it was easier with my schedule. She has changed jobs and I started doing it myself. I switched to Mobile 1 high mileage (engine has 130,000 on it). At approximately 7,500 miles since last change the oil change due is coming on. Is this just an algorithm that the computer uses or does it actually measure the current oil quality. Often times unless we go on a long trip for vacation she might only drive 100-200 miles a week. If she was driving in rough dirty conditions or on long commutes I would probably change it based on the warning message. Curios on your thoughts.

I change the oil every 5K whether my vehicle thinks it needs it or not.

just an algorithm. You should be good for 75k or annual which ever comes 1st with synthetic or conventional oil.

My work has fleet vehicle that use Dino oil and they are operated under harsh conditions. They get changed every 5K and seem to do fine. I assumed I could go closer to 8K using synthetic, especially given the fact often times it just sees the 15-20 miles a day commute and then into the garage.
