finally working on the yard...

After my Pops send me home a truck load of plants, I've finally started really working on the backyard. We're still removing the fountain remnants, so that corner is still a wreck, but I worked on the part under our two olive trees. It gets only morning sun, so picking plants has been a test in patience. But, we spent yesterday at the San Diego zoo looking at all the amazing plants and I was inspired.

I had to remove all the pavers and borders to reset them. And I added some of the rocks we've removed from the fountain - squished me toe in the porcess. I've not gotten to the whole garden, but this is a start.

The sago palm in the black pot is going into a large terracotta planter when I finally pick on out. And it'll end up staying right where it is. I like to buy plants and put them where I want them for a few weeks without planting them just to see if they like the spot. It's worked really well.

And, I've accumulated quite a collection of potted plants.

I'm beat.

I wasn't a fan of those retro borders, but I started to think if I fixed them - they had sunk to the scallops - I'd get used to them. They grew on me and I'm pretty tickled with them.

Yes, J, please post pictures. We still have the rest of the backyard and the front yard to do. I'm doing a section at a time. Inspire me.

Borders look ok & when the plants grow they will be a little more hidden too. I think they compliment the pavers

Looks AMAZING! You weren't kidding about the truck load part.

Wish I could put some of my plants in the ground instead of moving them inside each year.

Yardwork is good therapy. I really enjoy getting my mits dirty working in the yard. The plus is that it also adds value to the property!

Yup. I'll have to take a pic of the one my Dad has. It's more like a tree. Probably just a different variety.

This one was inside for a really long time - no good direct light - so the growing pattern is leggy. It didn't have any leafs when she gave it to me. I've had it for a couple of weeks and it seems very happy outside in the sun. Hope it blooms soon.

That looks really good, Tiny. I love working in the yard. Like Dare said, it's great therapy.

Cain, your tiki looks great. Be sure to post a pic when you get the big one done.
When I was a kid, we found a tiki along the river, after a flood. My folks set it up next to the driveway. It stood there for years, with moss growing on top, before the Oregon weather got to it.
I found an old picture of it.

That's the waterfall/fountain we've been removing. It was an eyesore that almost made me think twice about the house.
