Veteran's Day/Remembrance Day contest 2017

The Wrangler Forum 2017 Veteran's Day/Remembrance Day contest*

Open to all service men and women both past and present from around the world.
3 Winners receive a free 1-year supporting membership and a Wrangler forum T-shirt!**

The rules are simple:

  • Posting open for 4-1/2 weeks, from Oct 10 – Nov 10, 2017
  • Post no more than 3 pictures of yourself while serving in the military and tell us a little about yourself. (please remember OPSEC, we don't need too many details)
  • Nov 1, 2017 – The polls will be opened and members can vote for their favorite people.
  • Nov 11, 2017 – The winners are announced: Two winners will be chosen from all entries by a random number generator, and a third will be chosen by polling the forum membership .
*Veteran's Day is an American holiday celebrated on November 11th and is to honor veterans of the US Armed Forces, both living or dead. Originally known as Armistice Day a day to commemorate the signing of the armistice signaling end of WWI (the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month 1918).
Remembrance Day (aka Poppy Day) is a day commerated by British Commonwealth countries as to honor military veterans that have died in the line of duty much like the US Memorial Day.

For the purposes of this contest, we wish to honor members of the military regardless the country for which they served

(no North Korean, Al Qaeda, Taliban or ISIS members please.)

**Should a winner already be a supporting member on Nov 11th, they will be upgraded to a 5-year membership.

USAF 1986-2006 AMMO. One pic from the academy in '02, one from Kuwait (I'm on the right) and one on my cot in Saudi Arabia, covered in charcoal dust (from the chem suit ) and twitchin' from the P-tabs. Turns out I don't have many pics of myself...

I gave my Veteran’s seat of professional yacht fishing/eats/drinks etc etc spot away to a Wounded warrior at the Brain Trauma Center here in my community.

He was really excited to go.

Me? I’m just too emmotional when it comes to this stuff.

I don’t go to parades, I don’t stand as if its like yay! You made it home alive but all those other guys didn’t. The end of the Nam conflict ripped my ass a good one. 2 years, was worse than Cal State Prison work.

My Reserve time was the Hoot! But many of them (reservists) came back from the grand daddy sandpit of Sadam Hussian’s jacked-up shithole with all sorts of maladies. Many were old dicks like me, Nam vets. One of my buds had in 45yrs total service when he got his old ass sent over.

Its just the shits how many times personnel were mandated to rotating over and over again till it became a march or die like thing. I still meanander over to the brain trauma center, sit, bullshit with troops kinda thing. Makes me feel my personal pain is shared. As it is in combat training, helping one another make it through. So it is for life. Long after we’re through.

I have learned so much these last years showing up to medical exam appointments. I could write some very pointid observations to that of government healthcare. And those people within, Veterans, patients, the disabled workforce itself is a story unto its self.

I vote somebody on military disability be awarded this offering.

Me, I have no idea were my awards are anymore. Barn maybe.

Vietnam 70-72 cam rahn bay and adjacent area.
Detached USARV
Just a small group of young guys running wild and unattached.
It was all just fun and games.

I'm with FUBAR retiree. Award the prize to someone who could really use it.
I've been blessed in life enough to not need anything.
As a side note. Nov. 11th is my birthday. Veterans Day has always been my day to be thankful.

Playing in the helo (I'm a cutterman, only been in one of these for this pic and for a medevac). Then I'm the blue sheep at Army BCT3 training. Didn't have an uploadable pic from Navy IDC school. Pretty sure I've spent more time in Army and Navy training than CG training at this point. Enjoyed it all tho and have an even greater respect for what they do because of it!

Those here who may have a disability rating from the VA are unlikely to mention it.

I don't believe so since disability ratings come from both physical and mental conditions. Those with issues like PTSD are not likely to want to include that information here.

We can base it on a combination of the age of our Jeeps and how many "prosthetic" devices said Jeeps have, like armor, winch, axles, tires, etc. The kinds of things that help the old rigs get around a little better.

Agreed! It was a bad choice of wording in my earlier post and had no ill intent meant.

I did my time when things were relatively quiet, so the only stuff I had to gripe about was eating off those damn metal mess trays and getting my socks stolen out of the laundry. Even my worst days were all light duty compared to what those boys have been doing for the last 16 years, and what others had done before me.

Words can't express my respect, appreciation and gratitude for those who actually went into harm's way, and came back changed, or not at all.

Sorry @FUBAR-Retiree , @Alley Oop , @SgtBrewer I appreciate your willingness to forgo your possibility of winning to any Disabled Vets but you are no less deserving.

You are all still in the running.

It is because of people like you and the other members that have posted in this thread that we as a country are so blessed.
