Checked out a new lifted JL yesterday .

I visited a local jeep dealer yesterday. they had a new 2" Mopar lifted four-door Rubicon with 35 inch tires on it.
Getting into it was an exercise in gymnastics.
It was as tall as my TJ. Which has 3.5" m/c lift plus a 1 1/4" body lift.
Once inside,
I couldn't believe that it actually has less passenger room for the driver than my TJ.
I didn't like that the roll bar was next to my head, with seat all the way back.
The head space was less than my TJ with a soft top even though the JL had a hard top. The space from my chest to the steering wheel was less than my TJ also.

Oh another thing I didn't like. When folded down, the seats didn't fold flat. There's a big hole between the folded rear seat and the rear storage area.

For a vehicle as big as it is, it has very little passenger room. I felt cramped. It has a lot of good ideas about it. I like its looks and innovations. I like the mopar warranty.
But I'm only 6'1" and the big ol' thing wont even fit me.
I really wanted a new JL, but I think I'm gonna pass.

Keep in mind that the driver seat has vertical adjustment and the steering wheel has not only a tilt adjustment but an extension adjustment. If someone had run the seat all the way up and the steering wheel all the way out, it could account for the situation.

I ran all the seat and steering wheel adjustments.
It still seemed crowded to me.
Maybe I need to loose some weight.

Hummm. Maybe I'm just used to more head room. But it seemed lower than my soft top on my TJ.

I'm a big guy..6'3" and about 275. My JK was fine. I could recline the seat slightly and was comfortable. My JL, is uncomfortable. If I recline my seat slightly, my head is against the rollbar. It wasn't so in the JK. The seat is raked forward so that the front of the seat is lower than the rear. This leaves my leg feeling tired because it's unsupported when its on the pedal. If I attempt to rest my leg against the console, the TC lever is right into my knee. This occasionally happend in the JK when I was in 4 low. In it's most upwards position, the steering wheel is barely a half inch from the top of my leg. Not so in the JK in it's middle position. In it's lowest and most rearward position, the JL seat is almost 2" higher than the JK seat. The JL seat on it's LOWEST setting is as high as the JK seat on it's HIGHEST setting. This also makes the seat belt uncomfortable. I never felt restrained or the need to take the JK seatbelt off. The JL seatbelt however digs into my collar bone with it set to it's highest position. If I attempt to lean even a slight amount forward, i reach its limit and am stopped. My JK I could reach over and pick something up on the passenger side floor without undoing it. It is the most uncomfortable vehicle I've ever owned.

If anyone has a new JL and would rather have a real nice JKUR, contact me. I know my Jk is much better but I am willing to trade down.

Maybe was a JK? There is no space between the seat backs and load deck when the rears are folded down in a JL. There is in a JK.

Nope, it was a JL Rubicon.
I was in it and under it and in through the back gate. It was a JL.
It's simple to tell them apar from just looking at the tail lights if nothing else.
This one definitely had a gap.
Maybe something was missing. I don't know.

The JK has a gap between the folded rear seat and the back. The JL has a piece that covers it when the seat is down so that there is no gap. My JL has it and every other one I've looked at does too.
Bonecollector and Bueller44 like this.
