I got a lemon JL?

I bought a new 2019 JL Sahara in December 2019. Only 3 weeks after the purchase, I saw a lot of issues with this brand new JL:
1. check engine light came on, with code U0074
2. battery warning light came on, showing low voltage
3. auto start/stop warning light came on, the vehicle could not start after it was auto off
4. most dangerous problem: the steering wheel lost power when I was exiting the highway. I had to turn the wheel very hard to exit the highway, and suddenly the steering power was back and I nearly had an accident.

And one thing I am not sure if it is normal or an issue: the ETC light came on after I started the vehicle, but it disappeared very quickly.

The vehicle is now in dealership for diagnostic. I filed a claim in Chrysler's customer service website, and they contacted me saying they are reviewing my case. I will update the post when I get response from dealership or Chrysler.

Hopefully it will solve out with a relatively simple fix that kills most or ALL the birds....

We live in a day where computers rule the roost. Maybe a reboot or replace solves it all.

Good luck with it.

Sorry to read about your problems. I know it is tough to go thru this with such a brand new vehicle.

My only suggestion would have been to allow the dealer to do his/her thing first, before contacting Jeep. Filing a complaint before giving them a chance, only serves to put you into the wrong light. These are people you really need to be on your side.

Given the long list, and that it all happened at once, would lead me to hope that there is a single root cause to it all.

It was the second time I sent the vehicle to dealer. When I firstly saw the check engine light, I sent it to dealer for diagnostic. The engine light was off when I arrived to dealer. They said it was a stored code. The next day I saw the battery light and stop/start light and also the power steering issue, I visited the dealer again and then contacted FCA.

BTW: this is my 2nd Wrangler. I traded in my 2014 JK to get this JL.

Could be as simple as a bad battery or loose ground.

No one likes car problems, esp. with a brand new one.
With all the issues being electrical in nature, I tend to agree with those who suggest that they might all be related.
Unfortunately, what you've described so far is a long, long way from fulfilling the definition of a "lemon" under lemon laws.
I also agree that you may have jumped the gun with escalating your case past the dealership, the first line of assistance.

No, it's not like he ratted out the dealership for serving him poorly. The dealership is probably relieved that he promptly reported to the company, so they don't fall under suspicion for not being able to finish the work of the factory assembly line.

do you have the 2.0 engine? if so, there is a TSB for poor ground wire for the 24 volt battery, would explain the power steering failure and maybe some of the other issues too.

TSB S1919000004, ground strap has poor connection due to residual packaging material

visited the dealership this morning, they found both batteries with low voltage. They are charging the batteries, and will test driving the vehicle late today. No idea what caused the low voltage of the batteries.

With an Alternator?

Ask the dealer to check that ground strap connection.

Geezus...I'd hate to be having these issues on a brand-spanking new vehicle. Talk about killing customer trust.

Hope you get everything resolved without incident.

There's speculation that either Toyota or Mitsubishi may partner with Suzuki to sell the Jimny in the US - they know the Jimny would sell here, but not well enough for the Suzuki brand to return to the US

Someday there might be better rigs but for now we have the Wrangler. You are lucky you have a warranty. Many of us, number growing every day, have no warranty so we are our own repair shop. Your JL sounds more complicated than our JK's so good luck.

After having owned a Toyota Tacoma, I doubt I’d buy a Toyota-imported Suzuki Jimny.

Toyota really doesn’t want anyone customizing their vehicles, period. To own a vehicle like a Suzuki Jimny and not be allowed to do anything to it would be rather pointless.

Currently they're liftible - the co-marketed version may remain the same - why make the investment in changing it

Another reason to be hopeful, the Supra was expressly designed to support aftermarket tuners -

The list is long of the cars I should have kept.... as for Toyota owned several Supra's my last one was a in mid-late 90's it was a Turbo and I couldn't get rid of it to save my life. I ended up trading it in on my first Jeep GC V8.
Now that Supra would sell for $100,000. Oh well.

UPDATE: got my JL back from dealership yesterday. They found the loose connection of the ground strap of the 48V battery. They tightened it, and so far so good.

Did you know your power steering pump is driven by an electric motor?

Hopefully a tightened ground strap solves the sudden dead steering problem.

Yeah what @Blastek said. Same info ya got at the other website. Pretty much a knee jerk reaction the way you ran around hollering LEMON. Best wishes on your future with the Wrangler and life events all around.

Good thing it was addressed and fixed before the bad ground killed another generator.
