Is Firecracker Red a Jeep heritage color?

I just got a JLU Sahara in Firecracker Red. Browsing the web came across this beauty below that has been completely restored, down to its reportedly original Firecracker Red paint.

Does anyone know if Firecracker Red Jeep used back in the 1960s and 1970s is the same it uses today on JLs?

Wow that’s great reference! Thanks for sharing.

According to the link, Firecracker Red first appeared in 1973. I didn’t know “Firecracker Red” had such long history with Jeep.

No, I’m not buying an SJ. I just think they are one of the coolest vehicles ever made.

When I first got my Sahara I was planning to black out all the chrome and swap the stock 18” wheels with a set of black 17” wheels; Firecracker Red looks just bitching with black accents —see Sahara Altitude and MOAB below.

However, as I was waxing the Jeep last night I realized just how gorgeous those machined Sahara wheels and the brushed Jeep and SAHARA fender emblems are (see avatar), so I am now reconsidering. I am even thinking, when I get larger tires I may get them in size 18” just to be able to keep these wheels. There has got to be a happy medium between keeping the right bright pieces and making a Firecracker Red look stunning at the same time.

I was looking for inspiration online and came across that SJ. That’s when I discovered Firecracker Red has been around for a long while.

There’s plenty of chrome on those 1970s Firecracker SJs to give me some ideas.

Any Bold/Beautiful color looks great with "accents".
I am a keep it to two kinda guy (primary color +1).
If that is Red and chrome or Red and Black...I am confident of any and all - Aldo will come up with the magic. I've seen enough of your work.

I am waaay past the All Black phase. Done and Done IMO.
I kept my JLUR wheels because I liked them so much. Ditched the RWLs but that's just me, always has been.

Do er' up Pal.

I agree. I love black wheels, especially because they hide brake dust so well. However, often it is difficult to appreciate the wheel design when it’s all painted black.

I see people going more for the gunmetal look these days. Seems to be a happy medium.

It ainít easy playing with chrome on a bright red Firecracker paint color, but Iím enjoying the challenge. So far no regrets keeping the machined wheels and lettering.

My 89-year old dad LOVES that I decided to retain the bright shiny trim pieces on my JL. Here they are next to each other a couple days ago.

You're welcome ... this website has been out there for many years. I always forget the url and the site doesn't usually sort to the top with a Google search.

I found it comes in handy when cross-referencing old with new Chrysler corp. high impact colors from the 70s.

I was really surprised to see Firecracker Red dating back to the 70s.

Interesting that it shows Tank as a 2019 color, I wonder if that was on a different vehicle or a mistake. My 2015 JKR was Tank and I would’ve chosen it again in a heartbeat if it would have been available for my JLUR.

Well .. I can see they have two 2019 wranglers and one is misspelled so that tells me there are some errors in their content management system - not to mention, where they get the data.

I can't imagine being the one sitting behind the scenes tagging and linking all these together.

Spelling is important..

In the auto world there are three basic colors that sell well used or new. Black, Red, and White. Those three colors sell well on just about everything. Seems everyone likes at least one of the three.
