lost a hood vent

On the road yesterday. At 70 mph the passenger side hood vent flew off my Rubicon bought new last May now showing 16,000 miles. Anyone else have this experience?

Had you taken them out to 'open up the air flow' or were they untouched. I have 23k on mine and am thinking I should check them. I have never opened them up, but was thinking about it.

Never messed with them but I noticed the other day a thin black strip of material poking out of one side. I grabbed the vent and I could pull up the front but it was still stuck down in back. The next day it flew off. They seem to be built sort of like a clam shell with a 1" water drain (into the engine compartment) in the bottom half.

Yea, I'll be checking mine tomorrow to see if they are loose. Thanks for the heads up on this one BEFORE it happens to me.
Did ya turn around and pick it up?

Could it be that some local teenagers tried to pull a souvenir while the Jeep was parked on the driveway?

I opened mine up a few weeks after I got it. I made sure to seat the vents and snap them in. I think they have 3 or 4 snap tabs. I have not had any problems after I did the cutouts and re-installed.

That vent ( that's not really an accurate description, it is simply an ornament) is built in 2 pieces sort of like a clam. It is the top half that has no snaps or retainers that separated on mine. Now my driver's side visor has come out of the roof where the arm simply slipped out of the bracket that bolts to the roof. Dealer replaced under warranty. What next? Love my jeep though.
