Question Newbie looking for advice

Hello everyone!

I'm new to this forum and a hopeful future Wrangler owner.

I currently have a '18 Grand Cherokee (my 3rd Jeep overall) so I'm pretty familiar with the Jeep brand. I also have a '16 WRX which I'm looking to trade in for a JLU.

I'm new to this scene so please excuse my naivety.

I think I know want I want, but not sure what everything is.
What draws me to the JL is the new styling, technology options, and the Mojito green color.

I'm looking at a JLU Sahara in Mojito with LED, cold weather, aux switches, black hard top, all-terrain tires, Alpine audio system, 8.4" display, and remote prox keys.

Here's where I need your advice:
  • Does this configuration make sense?
  • Should I spend the extra money for leather Sahara seats?
  • Are the AUX switches worth it? If I add a light bar, I can't wire it to one of those switches right?
  • How does the 3.6 manual compare to "sports car" manuals like my WRX?
  • Do I want the all-terrain tires?
  • I'm hoping to get all of this out the door for $40k or less. Is that too aggressive?
  • Does anyone know when the Mojito ordering opens up?

Sorry for all the questions. I tried searching on some of these topics but most of the information I found is before the JL was actually out in the world.

I don't have any major plans for my JL other than some lighting and styling stuff. Can't lift it due to my low garage height so that's out and any tires that are going to add significant overall height.

Thanks!

The only thing I can truthfully tell you, cause I haven't really checked them out that close. So far every JL Sahara I have seen on the lots here in Maine has had either Michelin AT or The K02 AT. Even the Rubicon have been AT, not MT. It may have something to do with the Maine winter roads. Better traction on slip and slide roads.
Although spring mud season is just around the corner. Most Maine roads turn into mud.

Does this configuration make sense? Sure its what you want.
Should I spend the extra money for leather Sahara seats? I would, I thought u needed leather to get heated seats, which might be what you want if you getting the cold weather package.
Are the AUX switches worth it? If I add a light bar, I can't wire it to one of those switches right? Depends if you add the light bar/lights, If you are into it then yes, it will make the job of setting them up easier, unless you like having to wire it yourself.
How does the 3.6 manual compare to "sports car" manuals like my WRX? I dive auto, no Idea.
Do I want the all-terrain tires? probably, unless you hardcore offroading, AT works for everything. and they are standard on all JL's.
I'm hoping to get all of this out the door for $40k or less. Is that too aggressive? its a bit aggressive, I bought a new 2016 JKUS loaded-up for $42.5K with everything (registration dealer fees), but im not to sure about the current market for the JL.
Does anyone know when the Mojito ordering opens up? a Jeep employee can answer this question. they post now and then on here.

Hope I kinda helped.

Does JL offer anything besides AT tires? I have had MTs and ATs and I will say this: modern AT tires are simply awesome. They let you have your cake and eat it too. I have settled on KO2s for the past several years. It is the best truck tire you can buy today, IMHO.

I owned 6-speed manual transmission JKs in the past. They were fun to drive, but in an upright, long-throw, truckish kinda of way. Not in a traditional sports-car way. But they were fun to drive nonetheless. Having said that, off-roading is much easier with an automatic. And the new 8-speed automatic transmission is a gem on Rams, Challengers and Chargers.

I have a 2016 Challenger Scat Pack with the 8-speed; I owned a 2012 Challenger SRT with the 6-speed manual: I do NOT miss the manual. It is that good.

Good luck.

A little more clarity on the Aux switches...they are a dream to take advantage of, I hard wire radar detectors in all of my cars when I get them, I have for years and my Sahara with the Aux switches was so easy to do this in...well worth it IMO

You can also program how the switch behaves...ignition...batt...remember last state etc

Will be installing a light bar this weekend and it will be much easier due to the Aux switch bank...
