Rattle Upon Start Up in the Morning?

Hey guys,

So I have noticed that when I leave for work in the morning, the JLU rattles pretty loud in start up... Almost as if the fan blade or something is hitting something. I've been meaning to pop the hood and check it out but (insert excuse). Sometimes, if I let it sit for over 12ish hours or so, it will rattle but not nearly as loud in the morning.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Also, if I take it to the dealer... Would it be out of line to ask for a loaner car since it's still in warranty? Never had a car with a warranty and when I had a clutch issue with the JL, they gave me a rental but I had to be relatively assertive.

Usually a request for loaner needs to be pre-scheduled. Never hurts to ask....

Hi Tech49,
We understand why this is concerning. If you decide to take your Jeep into the dealer, please send our team a private message if you would like some additional assistance throughout this process!

My dealer specifically stated no free loaners before I signed the dotted line but you can ask. Granted I found 3 tiny hail dents in the hood before I purchased and they provided a free loaner when they scheduled to pop then dents for 3 days later. The other odd statement was they "graciously" filled my tank at purchase though they claim to only give 1/2 tank when a new car is purchased. Really? MSRP of over $40k and not a full tank!

The 3.6 rattles on startup before the oil gets flowing. Not sure if you have that engine. I don't think they ever addressed it.

There can be lifter rattle on cold mornings before the oil has gotten to temp, but I wouldn't call that loud, if you have the radio on at all you most likely won't hear it.
Are you sure this is coming from under the hood?
I'd guess more of an exhaust rattle from say a heat shield or a loose hanger, that would be loud and echo off of pavement pretty good and can change once up to temp.

If there was something in the fan it would be there all the time, wouldn't matter on conditions, same with the drive belt.

It did it ever so slightly this morning. I'll try to remember to video tomorrow morning so you guys can hear it. I'm not terribly concerned about it, especially since it's under warranty still...but I like to address problems immediately. Thanks for the responses.

FYI, I believe it is part of the Jeep wave program for them to provide a loaner.
