Hey folks, Anyone have an issue with the location of the roll bar? I’m 6’' 4" and apparently I have a long torso because when I sit in the drivers seat with the seat all the way back my head hits the roll bar. Concerned that my head would be caved in bouncing around off road or in a collision. Anyone have a solution? Thanks in advance!

Welcome to WF! I'm assuming you mean 6'4" not 64?

Is this from actually sitting in one of the new JLs? I am 6' 0", but also sit tall and have never come close. I know the JK seats can be raised and lowered, something the TJ and previous seats could not do. On the JK (at least on Sahara and Rubicon models) there are two levers on the left side of the drivers seat. The large one is to raise and lower the seat, the smaller one (rearmost) is to recline the seat back.

If you sat in a vehicle, it is possible that someone before you raised the seat and then reclined it a bit.

No, itís a 2018 JK but I was hoping maybe someone could tell me if the JL had more headroom or the bar was further back. Moved the seat all the way down and my head still hit when I rest it against the headrest.

I am 6'4" myself, and sat in a JL and I can tell you that it has more headroom. The sound bar curves away now by your head. The seat also lowers (same as JK)... another thing I liked is that the bump by the air vents is gone in the JL. I found resting my long legs against the center always hit me in the wrong spot on my leg in my JK.

There is now also adjustable lumbar support in the JL

However, I found the windshield height wasn't as friendly, the rear view mirror created a blind spot for me that I didn't have in my JK. I'm assuming a side effect of the more raked windshield? Or maybe the rear view mirror is mounted lower?

I'm 6'4" and don't have a problem in the JK or JL. I think a lot of this has to do not so much with the seat height and position fore and aft, but rather the level of recline you choose. I don't like much recline, find it very uncomfortable in the lumbar region, especially in JK that has zero support there, so with my head against headrest in either I'm not touching roll bar, but I could make it that way. I just assume I may have to make accommodations in almost every vehicle, and it isn't a problem. In my ZL1 I have to sit with a little bit of a lean, or have the seat reclined more than I want, I just adapt to it. Heck the full size Chevy trucks with the roof I am touching headliner, so to me it's just something I've accepted.

I'm 6'4" and have a JKU and have no problem with headroom, as long as I don't recline too much. I have found a sweet spot for me with a little recline that has my head a couple inches in front of the roll bar.

Now, I just got back from sitting in a JLU, just arrived at dealer near me, and at least for me, I don't have near the headroom as in my current Jeep. I do know about the height adjustment and had it all the way down. I didn't have tons of time to fiddle about with it, but the new JLU seems to have much less headroom than my JKU.

I actually just sat in a JL today at the car show. I'm 6'5'' and come nowhere near my sportbar on my JK. the JL has significantly less headroom. the sportbar is at the back of my head and certainly would kill me in a collision. I also lowered the seat as low as possible. I do think the JL has slightly more legroom though.

I'm pretty bummed as a long term wrangler owner.

I am only 6' 2" and sat in both the two door and four door at the car show. I have an extremely long torso. Head touched roll bar in driving position in 2 door but not in 4 door. 2 door was rubicon. Seats were all the way down. Head hits on Jk as well.

I'm 6'5" and "tried on" a JLU the other day while my '14 JKU was in for service. I was really looking forward to getting a diesel JL in a few years....

But, the seat didn't work for me at all. I tried every position I could.
I either hit my head on the rollbar or my knees on the steering wheel or I had to slouch to see out the windshield. I sat in that dang thing for 20 minutes trying to get in a comfortable/safe driving position and couldn't.

The seat needs to be able to lower more. It just won't work for me as is.

...bummed. I even pinged JeepCares about it but they haven't gotten back to me.

I have the same issue and concerns as I am 6' 4" as well.

I've gotten use to my head riding on the roll bar. I am almost bald so I don't have to worry about it giving me a bad hair day.

Massive bummer as I too was hoping to get a new JL in a couple years. I haven't sat in one yet, but it sounds like I am going to be disappointed at 6' 4"

I'm 6 foot 7 and my head does hit the top of the bar. I'm pretty sure if I'm in an accident it won't be pretty.
I fit in my 2014 JK a little easier. There are very few cars that I don't have some kind of a problem with. I always try and end up with a convertible because they usually have an inch or two more Headroom.
I'm still going to get the JL. But I do believe there is a liability issue there with the Headroom.
I know there's also more of a problem of not being able to see the stop light and the overall cabin feel a little more cramped.
I'm going to guess that I'm going to have to find some sort of a way to be able to adjust the seat even lower than it sets and probably move the brackets for the front and passenger seats back a little bit.

Well, I tried on a JLUR yesterday and it was even worse than the Sport.
What beautiful seats too. But my head was just smashing the rollbar.

Side note: what is with that hideous dashboard in the Rubicon? It was a contrasting reddish color that looked painfully out of place.
Loved the hood; hated the dash.

They also had a lifted Unlimited Sport. Mopar 2", 33" Jeep wheels, Toyo MTs. Stock 3.45 gears in an autobox.
$48,000+
yikes

Quick Update: Ended up going with a 2012 Wrangler Sport. Couldn’t be happier. Haven’t found anything to help with the head space yet. Hate dropping the seat down as I feel like I’m riding lower, guess that just means I need to start lifting it up! Fairly certain that my cranium will be battered in any kind of collision, oh well. My 6 foot 9 little brother doesn’t fit at all, but that’s kinda par for the course...

It is quite easy to lower the seat on JK. Please refer to this thread for JK, for pictures and descriptions of the modifications that you'l need:
https://www.wranglerforum.com/f274/i-...ler-54106.html

We also have a thread for JL, but nobody has completed the modification yet. It is significantly harder in JL than in JK, because the floor pan protrusions are larger. The modified inboard rail on JL must be interrupted. See here:

I keep reading "fluff" articles about the JL in automotive press and not a single mention that tall drivers can't fit in them.
