The Little Things

Some of my favorite threads of all times, across all the car forums Iíve frequented, have been the threads talking about those ďlittle thingsĒ that really stand out and take a vehicle from being good to being great. It seems like itís not enough to have a great engine or great styling, what really makes the machine is those endearing qualities that arenít always evident on a test drive.

In a world full of appliances on wheels, itís refreshing to see little design details make it into production, or a feature you never knew you needed until it was in front of you.

Iíve only had my JL a little over a week, but Iíve found several details that I love and some that I donít want to ever do without again. So in that spirit, Iíll start with a couple Little Things that really make me love this thing.

1a. The high beam stalk. I like that after you toggle the high beams by pushing forward on the stalk you can toggle back to low beams by pushing the stalk or pulling it toward you. Itís a simple thing, but it makes the transition from my other vehicles to the Jeep more intuitive.
1b. I also like how short the throw of the stalk is.

2a. High resolution back up camera. Wow, this seems almost like an epiphany. You can actually see when there are water droplets on the lens (and even some light snow) because itís not a big, muddy, washed out, low res mess. Coming from a Chevy Silverado, with a notoriously useless back up cam, itís really handy to have a useful one.

3. The button in the touchscreen to turn on the back up camera at any time is really cool and something I want in my other cars. Itís nice that you can configure the touchscreen so itís on the quick access bar.

4. The drain plugs in the floor and the all season mats that connect to the holes and use the same plug. Itís such a tiny detail that, really, every car, truck, and SUV should have, but only Jeep does it.

Well, Iíve got about a dozen more, but Iíll leave it at that for now. I look forward to hearing about all of your ďlittle thingsĒ that youíve found.

I like how the JL model has taken in to consideration the things changed by buyers from the aftermarket parts makers. Ie. Lifted fenders on the Rubicon. Heavy duty third member shielding. Complete roll cage. Lower rear tire carrier for better view out the rear window. Removable metal bumper ends for the Rubicon. Chrysler warranted lift kits.
This year it seems they took some aftermarket lessons.

It's not just a vehicle with big tires and a winch and fold down top and removable doors, that's what a jeep has, but what a jeep is..... is FREEDOM !

I take the long way home...

Moving the evap canister, handles on a pillars, adjustable spare tire rack. The updated hood latches. All good stuff
