Upgrading the sound from the 7" Uconnect

I know we are talking about a Jeep here and not a home theater room, but I think there is room for improvement over the stock system.

My days of spending big money on my car stereo are behind me, so I am wondering if simply upgrading the speakers would add some punch to the sound. Im not looking for rattling my windows with a 30hz bass drop, just adding some feel to the kicks and some depth to the snares.
I see the speakers are in plastic enclosures which could be a good thing, or at least a place to start.
If I have to I will add a small sub-woofer, maybe even try to find a stock Alpine takeout if they are good.

Can I simply add the stock sub to my stereo or are they not compatible?

Any recommendations for replacement speakers that work well with the stock enclosures and head unit?

Search the topic and it'll bring up a few threads. Good luck.

What i keep finding are people who are unhappy with the Alpine underseat sub/tweeter kit. And people who spent thousands installing top end speakers and amps.
Im just looking for a little, inexpensive upgrade if it exists.

I’m in a similar boat. I replaced my 4 speakers, added an amp...and they sound better but only at higher volumes. It’s still being pushed by the factory deck so that’s my next upgrade. I’ve tried searching for stereo upgrade threads but must be doing something wrong. Searched using radio, stereo, head unit and not really seeing too much that’s relevant to my situation. So far I’m about $400 into the upgrade for the items speakers, amp, and install.

I got the 8.4 with my Rubicon and itís one of the best sounding stereoís Iíve heard in a Jeep. The rear subwoofer is also excellent.

Does anybody know if the wiring is there for the non-alpine system for the sub woofer? Can I just add my own sub woofer? Wondering if wiring is there or not to add an amp anywhere or a powered sub woofer without starting from scratch.

Which speakers did you upgrade and what with? Does the stock stereo have rca outputs? Digital outputs? Subwoofer output?

The stock stereo has no RCA out. JL makes the only real adapter the "fix" at $400. Kenwood DXM7706s fits for under $300 but you will need to be crafty to make it look right. And will need a $125 Maestro RR with a wiring harness and antenna adapters ... and a new backup camera... and lose some of the functionality of the stock system integration. Suddenly the fix looks like a bargain.
The stock speakers can handle much more power but they dont sound great.
The kenwood does give you extra steering button program ability, a 9 band EQ and some extra gauges.

The Alpine system is growing on me. My Grand Cherokee had the 19-speaker Harman Kardon system which I thought was incredible. Took a little while to adjust to the Alpine setup. But now that I've spent some time tinkering with the equalizer, I'm happy with it. Definitely think the extra "insulation" in the GC also helped with the sound quality.

Not sure if this helps at all - but the plug for the stock Alpine sub isn't a regular RCA plug. Skip to 5mins of this video and you can see the connection:
