Any summerville charleston locals ??

Hi all newbie here. Picked up a 88 YJ 2.5l from a fella here and it didn't have spark when I bought it . So looking around and around found that the ECM was fried . SO i had a buddy that had one laying around installed it and we have spark now ! BUT ran like loop ! Black smoke black soot all that . Found every vacuum lines cracked or just plain falling apart . So I replaced all of them . Ran it today and ran for about 2-3 mins and died like it was out of fuel . Cranks over and yes you guessed it no spark ! Pulled the ECM and yup a capacitor fried ....uggh I'm banging my head against the wall as we speak ! Mind you I have about 30 days to get this up and running reliably till my wife's leased car goes bye bye.. What's driving these things ? What's the cheapest get me out of the water solution ? Any locals in Summerville , SC ? Thank you for the help and listening to my rant lol Jon

There are some folks in the Low Country Jeep Club that might could help.

Could you get another alternator to test the system with? When it comes to electronics I am mostly a "swap it guy" if that makes sense.

Uh oh, what happened?

When testing wires check for continuity without the power applied.... unless you have the meter set correctly.

This is true, there are a FEW, but the majority of the members on "CAJS" don't know the difference between headlight fluid and a trailer hitch. I am a member there also, but I know to come here for tech support. I also boycotted FB for years, still kinda do, I have no friends (not even my wife) but I follow the mentioned Jeep club (mostly for items for sale), Bill's Liquor (to find out the latest growler tap menu) and Fat tire Freaks (a biking forum). Other than those few groups I want to be kept out of EVERYONES
loop. 🇺🇸

Soooooo .. I ended up trading the black YJ for a running driving freshly rebuilt motor, trans , and transfer case . Basically that was a even trade money value wise .. There was a lot more issues with the 89. So I did some trading for a 95 YJ with a lot of extras. New tires , interior , msd ignition box , ect ect .

So I put the trades motor into the 95 because the 95 transmission was rebuilt with only 5000 miles on it .

Did the engine swap and found that the PO cut majority of wiring harness up . So I had to go and find out what each wire was and where it went . That was a pain the ass for sure ! But had a buddy that had a 95 so I was able to reference
His motor to mine and traced everything .

With all that and installing the fuel tank and internal fuel pump we are up and running ! Running quite well actually ! Very rewarding going through all the trials and figuring things out . Sucked balls but it was worth it .

Except for the exhaust needs to be fixed she's in great shape .

And I found that no one waves anymore around my neck of the woods so I've decided to no more waving lol

Yes I'm sure there could of been a better and easier route I could of taken but with funds being tight and some other cards that were
Delt to me I did what I had to do .

You'll be a better man for it all, I'm sure. That is an education most men never get anymore (not that I enjoyed it either with what little I have done). It creates a good sense of accomplishment and better understanding of the engine compartment, as it should!

Jeep Wave - I do wave when I can and feel ya pain~ With traffic getting so heavy anymore it is difficult to look for other Jeepers (and I remember they are having the same issue) while trying to keep an eye on the vehicles in front of me, for stupid maneuvers.

I still try!

Well then Welcome to Charleston!
When ya get here you'll see that leaving for work at the base requires leaving a bit early. Boeing traffic is getting snarly.
