Thanks to the same spy, and via Truck Trend and FourWheeler (same article just giving credit)

2018 Jeep Wrangler 8-Speed Transmission Spied , Not Your Traditional Shifter

Couldn't see the 4WD shifter in the pics.... Actually in the Final set you can still see the Channel for the 4WD shifter, just not the knob itself...

Interesting that they would choose that design for the shifter considering the recalls of a similarly designed shifter in the 2014-15 WK2.

If you blow up that second picture, you can see the handle for the 4WD shifter, just not the knob, but it is still there. Also what is that knob that is in the small gap of the steering wheel (the gap that would normally be in the bottom left position if the wheel was straight)? Is that an option for current JKs, or is that something new?

Honestly, they're probably just trying to keep as much as they can under wraps. The WK2's shifter was probably handy & fit is all.

The knob is the power mirror adjuster. No changes there

Not the same shifter, not even the updated GC shifter, it's actually the shifter from a Charger/Challenger. The GC/Cherokee shifter had a recessed button on top an is less physical, and relies more on electronic taps. The replacement 2016 GC shifter actually looks like an old style Charger shifter with a centrally located button, although with the button closer to the top than the front the way it was in the older shifters.

You mean the Steering Wheel Adjustment Tab? Which is on the Bottom left?

Or looking through the Usual Bottom Left gap which is now Bottom right, that would be the power mirror adjustment knob as mentioned above.

That must be it. I don't have that on my JK so it looked weird to me.
