Dealer flash for backup camera

Talked to Cambridge today and they are unwilling. Anyone have their Jeep flashed for a backup camera at a local Twin Cities dealership and how much?

Talked with Coon Rapids Jeep today. He first asked if it will work? I told him I had step by step directions. And then he said "160 bucks". I said, "160 bucks for 10 minutes of work and YOU don't know if it works? And I have to show you how to do it? I'll look elsewhere."

I'll keep looking and let anyone in the Twin Cities know what I find. Anything reasonable, that is... stay tuned.

No wonder dealerships get a bad rap.

Vehicle VIN must be updated with the sales code of the added accessory in order to enable system functionality. Using the DealerCONNECT website and the StarSCAN diagnostic tool, complete the procedure below:

1. Log on to https://dealerconnect.chrysler.com

2. In the “Vehicle Option” screen under the “Global Claims System” category in the “Service” tab, enter the vehicle VIN and add the sales code XAC (Park View Rear Back-Up Camera) as a “Dealer Installed Option”.

3. Confirm that the new sales code has been successfully added to the VIN. With the StarSCAN diagnostic tool connected to both the internet (via Ethernet port or wireless connection) and the vehicle, follow the steps below:

4. Using the StarScan select the VEHICLE PREPARATION and then select RESTORE VEHICLE CONFIGURATION.

5. Follow the step by step instructions on the StarSCAN to complete the Park View Rear Back-Up Camera vehicle configuration.

6. When the Park View Rear Back-Up Camera Vehicle Configuration is complete, go to the Validation Process to verify that the vehicle has been updated.

VALIDATION PROCESS

From the “Initial Start Up” screen on the StarSCAN follow the steps below:

1. Using the StarSCAN follow the menu to ECU VIEW, select TIPMCGW CENTRAL GATEWAY, MORE OPTIONS, ECU DETAILS and then CONFIG INFO

2. Verify REAR CAMERA PRESET- - - -SET is present.

This is for an aftermarket backup camera. The vehicle needs to be "flashed" or programed for the camera to work on the 430 or 730 radio/display.

Search the forums for flash and you'll get a whole lot of info.

I had mine done at duluth dodge, they charged $50 but said this was our last time doing half price blah blah. You can enable this yourself via alfaodb, I’d recommend that. Then you can enable drl and other features

Might be a bit late here for ya but I got my radio flashed at Apple Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Shakopee.

I remember ~$70. Send the directions and they said yes. I leveraged my oroginal sales guy but I think they will do it anyway.

I had told them that if they flashed and the mode switched on reverse (black screen with warning message), even if my camera didn't turn on (that would have been my fault) that they were good.

I had everything hooked up and wired and the confirmed it worked!

Don't do any of this.

Get an OBD scanner that works with your phone and an app called OBD JScan. You'll pay less than doing this at a dealer and have plenty more features in the future.

I'll take a look at that app, I don't regret doing the work though to get the camera running.

I hope the app you sharing does all it says it can do, pretty cool!

I paid a dealer to enable my camera a year or two ago. I don't think the app existed then.

I got the app a week or so ago for a different reason but when I saw the option in it to enable the camera I thought people here were going to save a lot of money going forward.

It will be nice to see someone confirm that they used it and it works as expected.
