Jeep Wrangler 2007 soft top questions

I have recently bought a JW 2007 2door, as is. Overall, good purchase. Gut the factory roof that is with it has some leaks, rickety frame, and poor sealing around the door frames.

I don't know a whole lot about the different styles and quality of available new roofs out there. I would like to take advantage of this time I have to buy new one anyway to find one of better quality, easier use in putting up and taking down, possibly frameless (do they make them?).

Also, if I buy a roof from a vendor, where do I take it to get it installed?

Welcome to the Jeep world and to the forum!

You won't get much traffic in the Indiana forum, or at least not nearly as much as you would in the JK general discussion forum (yours is the first year of the JK generation) or the general Jeep discussion. You'll get more responses there, since this is generally devoted to regional concerns.

However, I just discovered you may not need to ask at all. Here's a great sticky thread in the JK forum covering soft tops:

Great info there ^

There are lots of options for tops for Wranglers ranging in quality and price. The top of the line is by a company called Bestop, they are the most expensive but (IMO) have the best quality. They are also the company that make the tops for Chrysler/Fiat. There is a variety of other companies that sell tops and cheaper as well. There are also several companies that make frameless tops as well.

As far as the installation, that's super simple and you can do it yourself. The entire top is attached to the Jeep by 4 screws that hold it to the sports bar.

One thing to remember when buying a top is that you will need to make sure you get one for your model year. The tops changed a bit in (I think) 2012 so to attach a 2012-2016 top to a 2007-2011 JK, you will need to change out the door surrounds and brackets. You can either buy new (I recommend you check some of our forum vendors for deals) or used (lots of people sell their tops on Craigslist).

Here's a link to the JK area of the forum if you have any more general questions about your model Wrangler:

Here's an installation video that shows where the top attaches:

In the mean time, I just like to say . . .
