Who was in south glastonbury state forest yesterday?

Went to south glastonbury state forest yesterday with the kids and another buddy with his jeep to. Saw lots of jeeps out there cruising the trails. Anyone have anymore info on this place? Was. Y first time there. Are all the closed gates open in the spring summer fall? Are they trails you can drive on or just hiking? Lots of trails out there wish something was open.

I run thru here alot...at least once a week. I usually go in from Mulford Road (Portland) to Del Reeves, and pop out at the mega mansions in Glastonbury. Last week I was able to go about 1/4 mile from the beginning of Mulford, but the road just got too deep for me...I was plowing with my skidplate. By the looks of the trail lots of folks were dragging something. I turned around, instead of risking walking out! The recent heavier snow might have settled it a bit, I'll have to check later this week

LOL, I don't live too far from there, and I'm in Meshomasic all the time. Last time was 14.Feb.

Found an abandoned FORD Escape on Del Reeves Rd. by the Reeves Marsh. Escape? I think not, it was buried up to the rockers at the low point of the road just before the hill past the pond! I had to turn around. That might explain why I saw two unmarked DEEP SUVs heading out of the forest as I was heading in...

On the Mulford Rd. side, I found a couple of guys in FORD Raptors. One was stuck in the ditch. Tow strap and traction ramps didn't do much for their recovery, as neither had a shovel, and the snow was PACKED all around him. I loaned them mine, and watched. ;-) Silly me tried to turn around on the road and got stuck on the bank..time for them to ride my silly azz. LOL, it was fun and funny!

If you go out there, don't go alone in these winter conditions. If snow doesn't bog you down in a rut or depression then ice might, especially on the hills. I've seen plenty of vehicles slide into a ditch or rut, and get hung up. And I've been there, done that, too.

BTW, it's just forest service roads in Meshomasic. I like to hike up there, lots of wildlife: deer, grouse, pheasant, bobcat, red and grey fox, turkey, et c.

I live walking distance as the crow flies, but I'm glad good sense kicked in before I got stuck. Went snowshoeing Tuesday near the Res. I have seen all the critters you mention and also a cougar (which deep denies the exitence!). Check youtube...the Raptor guys have a few vids of their blasts thru there...way less snow however!
