You must LOVE these doors to join the forum and make a FIRST post with the express and specific purpose to say while they have issues and cost $3000 for 4 - "Go For It". Sorry mate, I smell a shill. Just calling it as I see it.

I have a '16 JKU Sahara and have been considering all my options for half doors for a few years. When I saw the looks of the core doors and the fact that they were all metal, and the center panel was removable, I was sold. Ordered in February, received at the end of May and I couldn't be more thrilled. They look awesome, no rattles, and no leaks driving in rain. I paired them with Mopar half windows because my soft top is black diamond and I wanted a match and after some practice time installing the front windows, they seat perfectly. I love the inside of the door, they provide much more leg room than my full doors.

I did have some issues experienced by others, but consider them minor. My front doors do stick out a little at the bottom rear. This may be because I have plastic door sill guards, but it doesn't bother me a whole lot and don't want to try removing them. The driver upper, when first shut, does leave a bit of a gap in the upper back seal, but if I'm outside the Jeep, I just push it in and if I'm inside, I just grab the window plastic and pull it in. It seals and stays that way until I open the door again. Would it be great if I didn't have to do this, sure, but it's easy to correct. At first the back doors stuck a little when opening. This was caused by the plastic around the latch catching, but this has begun to ease up to the point of not noticing it anymore. With windows on, the doors were initially a little hard to close, but this has resolved itself with use and isn't an issue anymore.

Bestop has been great with customer service. I needed the mirror mounting cups and they sent them to me right away. Since I bought my Mopar windows elsewhere, I didn't have the grommets. Bestop offered to send me some when available, but I ended up finding some in stock at Morris 4x4 and received them quickly. When I was having trouble getting the front windows to fit on the doors, Bestop sent me directions and with the hint of starting the front pin first, I mastered getting the windows seated properly quickly.

Overall, I love the doors and they pair great with the Mopar uppers. If you are on the fence, I say go for it. I think they are the best half-doors for the money out there. I probably won't paint mine, they pair well with my crystal granite paint. Once it stops raining and stays warm up here in Ohio, this is going to be an awesome summer! Keep on Jeepin' on!

Welcome to the forum. (Kind of a weird way to introduce yourself, but whatevs)

They are not the best half doors for the money. You're thinking of the OEM half doors. If they were $500 less, you'd have a point. But these are competing with the factory doors at this price point.

Sorry mate, not a shill and yes I do LOVE these doors enough to join the forum to let others know that they are great. When I first became aware of these doors, I did a google search for more information and came across this thread on the forum and saw that Cassie was supplying a lot of information, so I bookmarked it. I've been checking it ever since to learn pricing, release date, shipping date, and the opinions of others so I could make an informed purchase decision. I typically do not join or comment on forums (for obvious reasons), but after seeing so many people commenting that they are not going to buy these doors/windows based upon one guys review, yours, I decided to weigh in and give my 2 cents. I'm not putting down your opinion/review, it is yours and you are entitled to it. I actually had a few of the same issues you did. The only one I find mildly annoying is the driver upper, not totally sealing on it's own, but it is actually Mopar and not Bestop branded and I can just give it a tug and it's fine. But, in spite of those minor issues (in my opinion), I think the doors are AWESOME! Especially when compared to what's out there. Believe me when I say, I have research ALL of my options for half-doors over the past couple of years. I even have a set of 4 new in box Strike Force Zebra doors if anyone wants to buy them. I bought them late last fall, then learned about the Core Doors. While the SFZ doors are nice for what they are, I wish I had waited. I can't say it enough, I LOVE these doors, they are perfect for me! Now, for everyone else reading this, decide what you want out of half doors, do your research, check them out in person if you can, save up your money, then make up your own mind. Peace! Thank you for your service.

Hello. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Chris, nice to meet you. Better? They are "competing" in price, but when you figure in the fact that you HAVE to paint the OEM doors (I think you are going to pay an additional $800-$1000 to paint the OEM, but my estimation may be off in your area) and put them together and there is not a removable center panel, and that, in my opinion, they don't look as cool as the Core Doors...I feel the Cores are the better option. But I understand everyone may not agree. These were the right door for me.

My back doors are sealing fine and sit flush with the fender. The plastic around the latches would "catch" a little when opening at first, but that seems to not be a problem anymore, the plastic has probably worn down a little. Now, I just dropped them on there and didn't try to adjust them in any way. But, even the bit of "catch" didn't bother me that much. I think they are great!

Returning them didn't seem to be on the table.

Beyond that, I don't have the packaging (it STUNK of China rubery stuff). So packaging them is an issue.

I have my carpet out, I'm used to much more leaking from the fabric Bestop doors. So all in all, I'm fine keeping them. I wouldn't be at all if I had carpet. Nor would I be if I wanted to use them year round.

Ironically I'm most peeved that I have to deal with replacing or re-painting all the screws, and need to do it ONE at a time so I don't dare mess up the alignment/fit any worse that it is.

Finally I am rather disappointed by Bestop's overall responses. There seems to be more of a desire to shut me up, rather than actually satisfy me and/or just plain ol' replace the parts and try again. They deleted my review from their website (Don't trust reviews on Bestop's site - they only post positive ones); they made excuses for why things are the way they are and simply ignored any issue about quality of manufacturing, parts, or materials.

As I said initially, if a person has the money to blow and doesn't want factory half doors, AND wants OEM uppers, this is your only option. Blow it. If you are sensitive to cost, and you're looking for OEM "Fit and Finish" as Bestop says - NO WAY. Not even a close second.

For those who want the twill uppers - it seems they are perfect OEM replacements for factory half doors with the non-premium material.

Succinctly:
My rating as a "Jeep Mod" notwithstanding cost: 6/10
My rating as a product at the price point: 3/10
My rating as a product as compared to Bestop videos and marketing: 0/10

Man that sucks!

I had an experience with the manual B&M shifter that I installed in my Jeep a couple years ago. I gave it a few thousand miles to loosen up as requested but it remained very stiff and difficult to get out of gear at times. I had purchased the shifter through Jegs and returned it. I had on here a thread that I started when I purchased it that B&M would chime into here and there. I was honest in my reviews, and as you did here, didn't attack anything or one and just was straightforward about why the product didn't meet my expectations. When I returned it I was immediately contacted by B&M through the forum and they requested my return information with Jegs. They tracked down the shifter and rebuilt it making changes that they thought would allow the part to meet my expectations. They sent it back to me free of charge and only asked that I would continue to update my thread honestly. It was considerably better when I got it back and the work they did to it was obvious. I was now very happy with the product and updated my thread accordingly. I still will get a PM here and there about the shifter and I am happy to give them my honest view of both the product and the company that stands behind it. It means something!

Hopefully Bestop makes your issues whole.

Pleased to hear your story. Welcome to the forum then, it is a good source of info.

I LOVE the doors too. I just hate the quality - or more, I am disappointed in the approach Bestop took making them and getting them out the door. They had offers to test them by forum members for a reduced cost, and passed.

I am sure version 2.0 will be better. I think now that I've tweaked all I can, the thing that bugs me most is the rusty screws. Painting them is not only a pain, but makes their utility an issue in the future if needed.

Anyway, tis, what it tis.

Same was happening to me on the rear passenger door. The plastic also wore down and now doesn't catch. I was going to file it, but it took care of itself.

I have stopped communicating with them. It ended when they asked to take the next step with me getting tools and working with them to fix "My Unique Fitment" issue.

I just don't care enough to work for free for Bestop to fix what they should have done before they released the door.

The things work well enough for my needs ESPECIALLY since I don't have carpet and my Jeep is usually naked anyway. They are three season rain doors and are fine enough for that. I've wasted a lot of money in life on things with less value than their potential. Bestop's fabric doors come immediately to mind!

I got my lowers a few days ago naturally waiting on the PUCK to come in so I can put the OEM mirror I bought on. I can tell you that I am not experiencing any of the issues being seen by some of the guys on here. Thankfully... These doors are opening / closing nicely and the fit is very precise for me. I have not had them in the rain yet but that won't take long here in this crap hole. My lowers are not here and were due to be here Monday however there was a train derailment. nice right? waiting since March. while this entire ordering process has sucked, I can say I am very pleased with what I am seeing so far. will update once I get the mirror on and the uppers.

Did you purchase the puck or is being sent to you by the vendor?
I notice that on the Bestop page, it is advertised but out of stock.

Qtec has recently added a disclaimer about the puck/ mounting cup, but as of last night it's nowhere to be found. They also state in the newly minted videos that the mirror and puck are optional...yet others have already pointed out that no cover plate is included and would make the door vulnerable to water and potentially not legal in places.

Also, did you ask them to go ahead and send your lowers and split your order or did they offer to do that.

I ordered mine 3/14 and just weighing options at this point.

Thanks,
Chris

Also, Quadratec has another video out there with a full review of the doors.

Hey Chris
I saw that quadratic pushed the msg back from shipping 17th to ship when available yet again.. so I contacted they said the lowers were in but not the uppers. they said they could ship me both but the uppers would be coming from Nevada. (train derailment :/) I contacted bestop after getting my doors which do not include the puck. bestop said they would ship it right away and it was in stock. I gave them my address and that was it. I have no tracking so maybe I better call bestop back and validate they shipped. I did not have to pay for this as I was told before they were going to begin shipping the doors with the puck.

I called Bestop on the Monday I received the doors and asked about the mounting cups. They were quickly shipped at no cost and I received them on Friday.

I only have the lowers on my JK and have been very pleased so far. No adjustments were needed and the fit and finish are great.

Looks great! May I ask if you have plastic door sill guards? I just wonder if that is making mine not sit flush. I don't want to take the guards off if it's not going to make it better. Thanks.

Plastic sill scuff guards make a-lot of aftermarket tube / sheet metal / plastic doors keep from closing fully flush... but anyone with experience in autobody knows that you are always supposed to make your door 1/8"-2mm slightly proud above the surface of the body, to intentionally protect from any stone-chips.

Does anyone have pictures of them painted to match ?
I saw some on IG.. but not good quality pictures.

Yes, I added the OEM sill guards shortly after picking it up.

I just went out and looked long and hard at the adjustments that could be made. There is nothing to adjust that would fix the fit issues. In fact they are perfectly level. It is sum of the parts that cause multiple issues. I also noticed that on both front doors the aluminum edges are the doors have scraped off paint from the inside of the frame. On the passenger side, it is from the door closing to hard/deeply in - before it springs back into place, and on the driver side, it is not only that, but a slight misalignment exasperates that. Not a big deal, but touch up pain will be needed between seasons to prevent rust.
I just installed mine today and I also had the same fitment problem. I drilled out all the hinge mounting holes in the doors to 1/2" so I could adjust the rear of the door upward. That stops it from hitting the body at the lower rear corner area and not stick out as much. It also makes the upper fit better in the door surround. Doors close nice now.
I couldn't believe that the holes were just large enough for the bolts and no adjustment in them.

New question. The video shows inserts going into the door. I didn’t get any with the doors. Just like I didn’t get the part for installing the mirror, are they sending that out upon request? Do they come with the uppers? Did anyone else get inserts?

Call Bestop about the mirror mounting cups, they sent them to me free. The grommets for the windows come with the uppers. I'm using Mopar black diamond windows. Bestop said they could send me some when available (several weeks). I found them on Morris 4x4 website and they shipped them fast. All the Jeep dealers and Quadratec were out when I was looking a few weeks ago.

While I personally am not pleased with the quality (and some design choices) of the doors, I will say this about Bestop: Their customer service, in the end, is upstanding.

They worked with me on the phone to try to deal with the fit issues and were honest about design flaws in the process and some quality issues.
They offered to send a replacement door if we could not work through the fitment issues.
They apologized and sent not only the missing mirror mount kit, but also a FREE set of mirrors.
Finally, after I was just not satisfied with the overall experience and series of issues, they voluntarily issued me a full refund and told me to keep the doors.
That is a company that stands behind it's reputation. Credit where credit is due.

What? They gave you a refund and you kept the doors? Wow man. You don’t really hear of that. That’s pretty cool considering the cost. Smart move though. I’m still waiting on uppers they come tomorrow. That goofy mirror adaptor comes Thursday. I will update once I have them. So far the lowers are perfect for me. I have been running bestop soft doors for 3 years and they are awesome. I took out my carpet soon after I bought the Jeep new so a few leaks I am fine with. They are what they are “soft doors” but these core doors def are an upgrade.

Does anyone know if the uppers are available in Oak Tan? I have an nx glide top in oak tan and factory half doors.

I don't see that as an option and pm'd Cassie already but haven't received a response yet. Thanks.
