Wow that's terrible, please don't spend that much money on your D35. You can get another one from a junkyard for about $100, and it will bolt right in, (just make sure the gearing is the same). You could even get an 8.8 for around $1200 from ECGS and that would bolt in too.

Rebuilding your D35 will just make you sad again one day later. I think the majority of the community will agree with me on this one lol.

100% agreed. First off you went to a dealer. Wholly overcharge for anything. Trust me I know, my wife is a service manager at a Chevy dealer. Get to a junk yard and buy one and bolt that baby in yourself and save yourself over a grand

I agree with the dealer overcharging. The dealer wanted $600 to do the spark plugs on our Kia (v6, so intake has to be removed to get to rear plugs.). Local mechanic that I trust did for $136, 1 hour labor plus parts. I would have done it myself, but didn't feel confident about removing the intake. Next time we buy the 4 banger, easier to work on myself!

I agree, get another stock axle from a salvage yard for 100-200 bucks. You'll need to know your gear ratio, but any YJ 87-95 can be a donor.

If you're not running big tires (anything over 31") or doing any serious off-roading, the Dana 35 (while crappy), will be fine.

I've got a D35 with 3.07 gears for sale, cheap.
You'll want to give it new brake shoes but other than that it's good to go.
