It's listed on the permit which I don't have in front of me, however I believe it's on before 7am or after 5pm.

Hey guys -

As you probably know by now, Slacker's got it right - the hours aren't the best. On before 7a, or after 5p. You can stay as long as you want once you're there.

Also just a word of caution - the Gilgo Beach access has already been nixed and is not likely to return. To help preserve access to demo point (and Hither Hills) Please keep to the obvious lanes of travel, stay off the vegetated dunes, and avoid leaving any trash out there. The access to these spots is in a delicate balance. It's intended for people to get from point A to B, not really for 'wheeling. I'd hate to see it get shut down due to irresponsible use. It's a beautiful getaway and a sanctuary for many people.

Sometimes it sucks to be "that" guy if you see people getting a little too crazy with their trucks out there please spread a friendly heads up about this matter.
I have done this once - the driver was just itching to burn some fuel - so I clued him into the local clubs like Long Island Off Road and NYC Jeep Club, who both hold monthly runs at great spots, as well as mostly legal spots in Mahwah and Jackson NJ that are better suited to 'wheeling and getting the giggles out.

ROGER B,

Is that a definite about Gilgo staying closed? I had heard that it may open, but I guess that's false info.

Thanks

They are officially using the vague term "indefinitely". I feel it's not likely to be reopened because unofficially I've been told from NYS parks employees that policing that area is a chore. Still, their wording does leave the possibility of re-opening.

They cite erosion as the issue for closing. The wacky stuff going on in Rockaway shows that the NYC Parks Dept doesn't really have the first clue as to how to deal with the erosion issue. Hopefully the NYS parks dept has a better handle on things. I just figure misuse of currently open areas isn't going to speed up the process.
