We are moving to Gouverneur, NY on June 24th, DH will be stationed at Fort Drum. Would love to meet other Jeepers in the area. The Jeep dealership in Gouverneur offered their lot space for Jeep meet-ups if anyone is interested.
I just joined the forum, but IO have been here a long time. Stationed here twice, retired here and now work for housing with Baldwin Managment. If you are moving to Gov. We have a housing area ther, but so does United Group.
I just got my Jeep and I am having some trouble getting it the way I want it. It looks cool but I want more performance and handling
It's nice to see a fellow Jeeper in the area AND on the Jeep forum!
I don't have Internet at home yet since our only local choices are dialup and Satellite, and Verizon are taking their own sweet time sending us the disk for dialup access, so this is really the first chance I have had to check into the forum since moving. It's nice to have the USO.
We moved to Gouverneur and are renting a very nice house with quite a lot of acreage out in the country - no military housing for us, since we have two large dogs (retired working dogs) and two cats. It was very easy to get a statement of nonavailability from housing on base. Our household goods arrived ... most of it damaged, some of it broken, some of it missing. It must take quite a bit of force to crack a tile-top table ... but at least most of our things are here and most are usable. And the Army is pretty good about reimbursing for things that aren't.
The local Jeep dealer to us is Blevins in Gouverneur, who would be more than happy to give us their lot for club meetings if we were to start a Jeep club up here. There certainly are a lot of Jeeps on base, even some LJs. If you see us (it's the electric lime green LJ with the "Caution Working Dog" stickers on the side windows of the hard top), feel free to stop us and chat. Trust me, there's only ONE lime green LJ in the area. We've gotten a lot of, "Oh, you drive the green Jeep!" comments when meeting new people.
