New York "Street Legal" Requirements

Looking to get some solid input on this. I'm moving up to the Watertown area in December from Southern AZ (have lived in Rochester before, but never with the JK). I have a few questions and any/all consideration is GREATLY appreciated!

- What are the fender/bumper requirements and tire coverage requirements?

- Can tires protrude from the wheel well?

- What are the recommended tires for dealing with the snow/ice conditions? I am currently pricing out Duratracs, Grabber AT2s...

If anyone is up in the Watertown/Northern NY area and either knows of a club or would be interested in wheeling, shoot me a PM.

Thanks!!!

Please rethink your planned move from FREE Arizona to the land of "NO" York....no legal wheeling, high taxes, firearm unfriendly...traffic, crowds, crime...tell me when to stop...lol

I can't ay specifically for Rochester because I don't travel up that way but for the most part I don't hear too much about the law hassling jeep owners. A quick google search found this:

http://liftlaws.com/new_york_lift_laws.htm

Good luck with the move

I live in NY too, it's THAT BAD!!! Lol...there's no legal, public wheeling. At least in my part of the state and most of the areas I travel, from LI to the Southern Tier to the Lake George region/Adirondacks. I wheel all the time too, but it has to be on private land with permission. Nothing compared to Arizona where the OP is coming from. Taxes are outrageous. I'm paying $12k for a 60 x 200 lot. That's more then most qmost people pay for rent in other states. If you're carrying legal consider yourself lucky. I applaud that. That's the way it's supposed to be. I've heard that in some counties in rural areas it's easier. From my experience any time you get near a metro area or larger population base things can get a little on the liberal side of the aisle. So from my perspective, NY sucks!!!! Lol

Why dont you move to a state you enjoy? Your taxes are pretty high.I have a 1900 sq ft house on 2 acres of land & I pay half of what you pay.

Believe me, as soon as I can retire, 4 years, I may be. If I can convince my young children, who are still in school that they'll make friends where ever they go, I'd be out of here so fast I'm not sure we would even pack....lol

Sounds like there's some serious love for the great state of NY. Trust me, I would stay in AZ if I could however my job is such that I go where I'm sent. Honestly looking forward to the snow and change in scenery, although I'm going to miss the Jeep playground that is AZ. Not sure how I'm going to feel about paying to drive trails...seems ridiculous right now.
