So, I've spent the last 4 years in Yuma AZ, and i've never driven my Jeep in snow. What i'm trying to find is a good tire with some pretty good all-around off-road capabilities that will still perform good enough in snow. I was thinking about BFG M/T, but i've heard mixed reviews on their winter performance.
everyone has different opinions on tires. I have BFG all terrains now because I do about 1000 miles a week highway driving. I had M/T's but wore them down. They sucked in the snow, sucked in the mud, slid in the rain, noisy on the highway. Plus I only got around 6k miles on them before they were junk. I had to put it in 4H in a little 2" snow because it just spun everywhere with the M/T's. I'm happy with my BFG A/T's now.
The main thing I was worried about was the light snow performance, since i've heard about the same thing from other people. BFG M/T + light snow = disaster. I know i've been away from NY for a while, but as I recall it's hard to find a clear street for more than 2 days in winter, so that's where i was most concerned. I just didn't know if the A/T's would be aggressive enough for the mud i'd eventually be getting into.
if you want a MT tire that´s good in snow and rain go with the cooper STT.
my 35x12.5x15 cooper STTs are even better than my old BFG ATs in rain and snow.
Yeah, but at $900 or so for a full set of tires, i'm not too jazzed about buying more than 1 set every 3 years or so. Plus with 4 wheel drive, you shouldn't really need snow tires.
True on the braking aspect. I was thinking of the whole braking and turning thing. I'll definately take snow tires into consideration, but it would still be kinda crappy. Them's the breaks I suppose.
And, as a sidenote, does that say you're in Germany?! Are you in the Air Force or something?
