Trails in the Northeast

New Jeep owner, and proud of it!

Although it's winter I'm already stoked to take my Wrangler out on trails in the spring/summer.

I live in upstate NY and I'm having a hard time finding any trails to off road on.

Any ideas??

Not sure how far you are willing to travel but, Rausch Creek here in Pa is a great place for a weekend destination fun trip. Lots to do there and surrounding area (shops, Pubs, etc.)
Enjoy!

Seek out Wicked Jeeps of Western NY on Facebook. There are numerous chances to wheel as well as socialize with like minded Jeeples.

Many of our destinations are right near you. Check out Wrangler Ave in Savona NY.

Welcome to the group.

What part of Upstate NY are you in? I have heard "Upstate" be used to describe a huge area.

Thanks everyone! Great info...

I live near the capital, not many trails to be driven around this area so I expect to travel a bit.

I was thinking ADK area/north country, or possibly as RubiconSS said, PA.

@agreco12 - I live near Albany and I am a member of a local Jeep club. You should check out CDJW.org (Capital District Jeep Wranglers). We do have a forum for members and we are active on meetup.com. If you do join up, my handle on the forums is cbunting. Hope to see you there and on the trails in the spring.

Hey guys, I will be visiting family in the Adirondacks this summer and would love to plan a Jeep 1-2 day trip in that area. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding good overlanding-style trails/roads? I'm sure it's beautiful to just drive through the parks and forests but if there's anything I should know that's a little bit more Jeep-only that would be awesome, thanks!

I'm leaving for this trip this weekend, so if anyone has any tips, TIA! Our cabin is near Croghan, NY if that helps. Thanks, guys.

I'm also new to Jeep ownership, and I have been scouring the internet for local trails (I'm in Rochester). Lyons has a place called Whispering Pines that piques my interest, so maybe check them out?

I'm currently in WNY (Rochester, specifically), but have family in the Thousand Islands region as well.

Hey guys, thought I would drop some pics in here. Had a great time in NY and took the jeep out almost every day to explore the local forest access roads. Many of them had some genuine obstacles not unlike the green trails at the off road park I'm used to and I had a particularly good time on this powerline easement trail I found. A lot of it was gated off by local hunting clubs and I did respect any private property signs I found, but even though I couldn't go everywhere, I was very happy with what was on offer. Happy Jeeping, New Yorkers! 🙂

Very nice, can you share the specifics where you went?

Our cabin was on a reservoir near Croghan. One of the trails snaked up through the Five Ponds Wilderness Area, but the rougher roads and fun logging access trails were mostly west of 812, I think near Diana Center and Natural Bridge, but it's all very fuzzy as I just drove around getting lost and relied on compass directions to make my way back to 812, from which I could find the cabin. The power line easement area I did a few time, but all I remember is that you go north on 812 and turn right after a general store that the locals call "the church" because it's an old converted church building, and then another right onto the trail under the line.

I know that's not very helpful, sorry!
