What is the "ideal" offset for wheels, if there even is one?

I'm messaging back and forth with a dealer on some 16x8 wheels with a 0 offset. He's telling me that the 0 offset is a little low for my 09 JKU. They're the Raceline 903M 16x8 wheels. What I want to know is, if this is too low, then what do I need to look for?

you will probably get different opinions based on wheel widths and tire sizes but I don't think you can go wrong with 4.5" b.s. I run 16x8 raceline raptors and they fit perfect

^like Jay says, depends on the width of your tire. 4.5 back space is OK until you go over 12.5" wide, the popular Toyos @ 13.5" wide should be closer to 3.5 back space

Thanks for the help! I think I'll go with a lift kit. I'll eventually move up in tire size to 35" when these tires need replacing, so I'll move some of the flat fender budget over to a 2.5" lift kit budget.
