Electronic tranny in 2000 w/4.0
 
Hope someone can help with this simple thing. I have a 2000 TJ with a 4.0. The best I can tell these came out with a 32rh auto. to me this indicates a hydraulic tranny over an electronic. I'm trying to make my shifts a little more crisp and less slip when running in the gear. Now for my queastion. Back in my street rod days we used shift kits and special performance tranny fluid to make them shift better. I'm really getting a little to old to put the shift kit in, but the fluid used to work pretty good even ehen used alone. But, the fluid says not recommende for ELECTRONIC transmissions. My question is do I have an electronic transmission in my jeep. I'm not even positive that it is a 32rh, but I have read in this forum that this is what is in the 2000 with the 4.0. Can somebody clear this up for me or tell me how I can make sure mine is not an electronic transmission?

Your transmission is indeed the fully hydraulic 32RH. Don't add any additives to the ATF, that transmission should only run on ATF+4, nothing else. It doesn't take kindly to additives.

The 32RH is an outstanding transmission as is, I definitely wouldn't add anything to the ATF trying to make it shift harder.

If it's slip shifting it probably would, but then too tight will eat it up. There's an adjustment just outside and another set (2-3 I think) inside the pan.

Edit: I would get a case of ATF+4, drain it, put a new filter and gasket on it, (adjust the bands per spec if you feel so inclined), torque the pan down, disconnect the line to the cooler at the radiator, put ~4 quarts in, start it, put it in N, pump the fluid into a bucket while simultaneously pouring in new ATF+4 until the fluid coming out has a nice clean red look to it (probably another 3-4 quarts), then shut it down, top it off, verify proper level, and see how it drives.
