Trailer Wiring harness

I'm wanting to put a trailer wiring harness on my YJ. Is there a plug and play kit, or just hard wire it in?

I believe mine was plug and play but was given to me from my bro in law. I put in years ago so not 100% sure but if I was a betting man Id say yes.

I saw that one, but when I put my year in, all it came up with was the universal kits. Also, that connector isn't the same as mine. Mine has flat 3 wire connectors. I also found 4 wire T connectors that won't fit.

91 is the first year with a custom fit harness on etrailer.

I wonder if these fit my connectors. I could make my own harness...

Hmmm my bad....
If you splice it, go upstream before it splits

I got into mine just after it dropped into the fender well from the roll bar brace. Pull the grommet, Pull it up, splice, seal, drop back in. all your wiring is there in one bundle, so watch out for the tank wires.

Used this kit, But don't mess with the little blue splice in connectors will inevitably mess with your brake lights function, PO went in above the grommet in the bed. I would have pulled the grommet, pulled the harness up a few inches, splice, solder, seal and drop back into the fender well if I was starting from scratch. All your wires are in the same bundle, so be mindful of the fuel lines and correctly identify the brake and signal wires before you make your splices, and find a secure ground for both the jeep and trailer sides of the harness.

Etrailer kit. https://www.etrailer.com/t1-1989_Jeep_YJ.htm

good luck.

Mine is an '87. I couldn't find a plug & play harness so I simply hard wired one into my factory harness.
I did mine with the plastic liner out from underneath, but I like how Got it at last suggests. Pull the harness up and solder-shrink wrap the connections. That sure makes the job a lot easier.

Good Luck, L.M.

My trailer harness comed through that grommet and is stores wadded up between my roll bar and tub... when I need to use it I run it over the tailgate.... been that way since 2007 w no issues...
