My First Jeep - A 1990 YJ
My name is Dave and last week I purchased a 1990 Jeep Wrangler YJ. The Jeep is entirely stock, I4, 5-speed. It has been sitting unused since 2003 and has almost 75,000 miles on it.
Why did a buy a Jeep? Although I am 39, I have many fond memories of my childhood when one of my teenage friends owned a rusty old CJ and we'd have a great time in the woods and riding around town with the top off (in fact, I don't think he even owned a top for it)! I've wanted one of my own ever since.
Up until recently, a Jeep didn't fit into my otherwise practical lifestyle. I had one fuel efficient car for a long commute and another car with a large seating capacity for all of the kids and their friends. I have since left my job and started my own home-based accounting practice here in Florida. So I bought a Jeep to ride around and have some fun.
I am totally new to Jeep. I am going to change all of the fluids and change out the water pump (it is leaking through the weep hole). I also need to do some exhaust work as she's very loud. I'm an accountant by trade, so I don't really know what else I might need to do - any suggestions would be appreciated! The floor has some holes due to rust which I'll get to as time permits. I don't really plan on a lot of mudding or trailing - I mostly just want to use it around town and take it to the beach.
I look forward to being a part of this forum.
