Best website to buy MTZ

Looking to pick up some MTZ at the best price/combo I can find. I wish tirerack sold them so I could get them shipped mounted+balanced.

Would anyone happen to know of any decent deals on these?

Arch Stanton 06-26-2011 10:24 PM

Try JC Whitney and search online for a coupon code to use.

MikalCarbine 06-26-2011 10:53 PM

Found some good coupons for JC Whitney which took off almost $200 but it couldn't beat the price I found at tirebuyer.com, 213.37/tire compared to 230 or 250/tire I've been seeing elsewhere

KidRock171 06-26-2011 11:11 PM

Show that price to discount tire. They will match it.

MikalCarbine 06-27-2011 09:50 AM

No discount tire in CT or even MA :-(

KidRock171 06-27-2011 12:55 PM

Not even discount tire direct? Their online store should ship most anywhere. Though I don't know what the rule on price negotiating is via web

MikalCarbine 06-27-2011 03:23 PM

Called them up just now, they said they don't carry Mickey Thompsons even though I've read in multiple places they are able to get them. Either way tirebuyer also has free shipping so I'm not sure what else they'd really be able to offer without local places to install

KidRock171 06-27-2011 03:35 PM

If DT can't help you out then go with what you can. And finish this thread with pics once installed.

MikalCarbine 06-27-2011 07:17 PM

Will do, now just to find the right wheels. I called tirebuyer about combos and they don't install prior to shipping. They said they should be having some sales coming up this weekend, 5% off of 213/tire would be a steal!

Thats the best price I have seen on them. :thumb:
I wish discount tire would carry Mickey Thompson. They would get about 1K a year from me alone :)

I have never been a fan of having tires pre mounted and balanced. I prefer to take them to a local shop where I can watch them get balanced on the Road Force machine.

MikalCarbine 06-27-2011 09:35 PM

I'm considering using dynabeads or equivalent (plastic bb's) and installing them myself. Think it'd be hard?

Mortalis5509 06-28-2011 12:23 AM

You know that cooper make MT's and that the STT's are the same thing but just cheaper. I got my 285's from treadepot.com for 880 including shipping but I also got hit with tax since the online place is in GA.

COOPER*DISCOVERER STT LT Sizes

MikalCarbine 06-28-2011 11:42 AM

Yes I've read that. What size is 285s? I've read the big difference is the sidewall design in which it seems MTZ are much stronger

TJe0454 06-28-2011 11:48 AM

x2 on treadepot. got my 5 duratracs for $785 shipped. ($157 per)

MikalCarbine 06-28-2011 03:21 PM

Too bad they don't carry MTZ :-( not sure if I want STTs because of what I've read about the sidewall

No they are not the same. Just because they are owned by the same company does not make them the same.
Unless a Camry is the same exact thing as a Lexus just cheaper?
A Kroger Cola is the same exact thing as a Coca Cola, just cheaper? Because they both come from the same bottling plant.
The MTZ has a stronger sidewall then the Cooper. And from the Coopers I have seen the MTZ last longer.

Mortalis5509 06-28-2011 06:26 PM

I have a load range D but from what I have read load range C wears faster. 285 is 32. something inches but eveyone calls them 33's. I don't have a wear problem with mine.

MikalCarbine 06-28-2011 08:04 PM

I've read 33x12.5r15 MTZ measure 32.8" and 32" once installed :p and they are even usually more narrow than what they advertise. I wonder if their 33x12.5's are just relabeled 285s lol

stangmata 06-28-2011 08:20 PM

I'm actually torn between the Cooper STT and the Mickey T MTZ. What type of mileage are you guys getting out of the MTZ?

MikalCarbine 06-28-2011 08:27 PM

This is all from what I've read online and I have no personal experience with them but the MTZ are actually softer than the STT and get around 35-50k. I don't recall what the STT average. Because the MTZ are softer they tend to chip less than the STT.

Personally I'm pretty well set on the MTZ and buying from tirebuyer, just waiting for the sale at this point. I also need to pick wheels!

I got 44k out of the first set and still had plenty of tread left. Sold them for $250.00.
Current set I have 47K on them and have 11/32 tread left.
Mine are 285 75/16 and I do a 5 tire rotation every 5K
Just went out and snapped this pic.

MB Wheels, a knock off of certain AR models but cheaper. My only problem is that these have 3.75" BS and I'm aiming for 4"

BlackedOutYJ 06-28-2011 10:14 PM

I believe 4wheelparts.com is having a summer sale (free shipping) on MTZ and BFG tires

Ah good call. My bad didn't exactly remember and too lazy to double check. Lol

MikalCarbine 07-08-2011 07:05 PM

Just a follow up from my experience with tirebuyer

Placed my order, they processed it very fast and it shipped the next morning. Would've arrived 1 day later (MD to CT) but Fedex doesn't drop shipments off at my apartment unless I'm around. Just picked them up today and they look great. DOT date code is 1911, 19th week of 2011, these tires are fresh

Scoob 07-08-2011 07:11 PM

Nice, what size are those?

MikalCarbine 07-08-2011 07:22 PM

33x12.5r15

I ordered my wheels (wound up going with black rock 909s), new lugs and valve stems yesterday at summit racing, they even price matched jegs pricing! Should be here soon then it's time to lift and throw these guys on
